My tension pulley screw hole is stripped in Oldsmobile Cutlass 95

My tension pulley screw hole is stripped - my tension pulley for the serpentine belt popped off, I took a look at the hole for the screw that keeps the pulley on and it is completely stripped. What is the part of the engine block that this hole is on? It looks like a thick plate bolted on to the side of the engine that seems to maintain the serpentine mechanism...

The easiest way to fix this problem is to install a helicoil in the stripped bolt hole. This is a specialist job that requires special tools, but I would not expect it to be very expensive other than any work required to gain access to the bolt hole. Go to a local mechanic and ask them to install a helicoil. If they have never heard of this, go somewhere else.

I may have created this account but I did not post this question. Any thoughts on what's happened? Thanks again!"

maybe the wire is severed where the door (drver dr) pivots. thats what was wrong with mine. there is a rubber boot with crinkles in it that hold all the wires together. you can also try replacing the switch board that controls the wndws on the drvr dr. hope that helps.

SOURCE: Replace belt tensioner pulley on 1994 buick skylark

You need to put a piece of wood underneath the oil pan and place a jack underneath the oil pan/motor, loosen the motor mounts that are next to the belts, then raise the motor enough to reveal the nuts/bolts for pulley...just dont raise the oil pan so high that you crush it or break something, only enough to be able to reach tension pulley...

How do you release tension from the serpentine belt to change water pump on a 89 oldsmobile cutlass ciera?

In the middle of the idler pulley/tensioner, there is a bolt head (I think it is a 13 or 15mm). Use a wrench or socket to turn it away from the belt, this will release the tension on the belt and allow you to remove the belt. Be careful, it is spring loaded....

Need to replace serpentine belt

There should be a diagram of the belt routing on the engine near the belt, the radiator support, or the hood. If not, make sure you draw a diagram of the belt and pulleys before you remove it.
There is a spring loaded tensioner that keeps the belt tight. You move the tensioner away from the belt to release the tension while removing the belt. Install is the reverse procedure.

I'm not a mechanic, but I have to fix a problem. I lost a belt that runs the alternator and maybe the power steering. What do I need to know? How hard is this to do myself?

If it's a v-6, then use a 1/2 " breaker bar to make the tensioner pulley move to loosen the belt if it's on there. If it's already off, this is the last pulley that you put the belt on.

Just buy the serpentine belt for the dngine that is in the cutlass supreme at your local parts store.

Then, thread the belt on to the pulleys with the grooved ends towards the grooved side of the belt, and the smooth sides towards the smooth pulleys until the last pulley is the tensioner pulley.

One may want to look at the tensioner and try to see if there is excessive side to side play which would cause the belt to fly off.

Good luck on this repair.

How to change serpentine belt on 1993 Olds Cutlass Ciera V6 motor

Click on the following direct Link. It has the Serpentine Belt Diagrams that you will need for your specific engine size and options (AC/No AC...etc).

Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating it\moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.

Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them

Belt snapped last night think it was serpentine belt how much am i looking at to fix?

Depending on where you purchase the serpentine belt, and whether it's a budget or lifetime version, prices range from $18 to $33.

You can replace this belt yourself.

The belt goes around, and under various pulleys on your engine. There is ONE pulley that puts tension on this belt. There is a bracket, or 'arm', that this tensioner pulley is attached to. One simply takes a 1/2 inch breaker bar, and inserts it into a 1/2 inch square hole in that bracket.
You then pull the bracket over to one side with the breaker bar, (The direction will be pulling the tensioner pulley away from the serpentine belt), and slip the serpentine belt off of the pulleys.
The belt diagram of how the belt is placed around the pulleys, should be on the fan shroud support, or under the hood.
