Re: 2000 s40 has erratic idle. Feels like it's surging
This seems similar to a Volvo C70 which i have worked on......the fault was the Mass Air Flow Meter was faulty........does it do this in all the gears?

Check the vacuum hose from the engine to the power brake vacuum reservoir, it make be loose or cracked and will cause an erratic idle because of the vacuum leak. Please rate this answer, thanks.
