Re: I have a 2006 Suzuki Grand Vitara. Does the back
Mine does. The back seats tilt forward with a release on the side of the seats. The split seats tilt towards the driver and front passenger seats for more room in the back.

Not a car expert but have some common sense advice---is it possible the vehicle was re-keyed before you got it? Someone may have lost the original keys and resorted to just using the other feature---a year is a long time not to know about this---I should not talk as recently got a vehicle where owner said rear window would not open for last two years=that vehicle has child safety locks on rear doors that also disable windows--needless to say nothing wrong.
I would talk to Suzuki if the key box is a factory installed item to see if it has a way of locking the physical keys out.
Worth asking---if after market item it may have been installed in a way that causes this issue.
check the owners manual on this
