I looked at info for your security system, it is starter motor disable. I didn't see 06 ford Taurus in my database, so I looked at 05.
Battery has a full charge and battery connections all good?
We can usually do some tests to see if starter motor will crank the engine, but, if the security is the problem, it still won't start.
You can check for applicable trouble codes? Try a different key?
Its possible you got water in a wiring harness under the carpet or under one of the seats. You would need to trace the wiring from the key to the starter to see what is not working. Could be the neutral safety switch on the trans but that would not have anything to do with wet carpets.
The click you are hearing is most likely the start slenoid making contact, however you should short the large wires @ the solenoid to make certain the starter still doesn't run, if so try tapping the starter with a hammer to shift the comutator a litle and try to start. Even if it now starts the starter will continue to give you problems so the proper fix is change the starter
the starter soleniod is on the starter, if you look under the front of the car at the motor wher it meets the trany you will see the starter, its best to replace the complete unit, this is not like older fords where there was a soleniod up on the wall and starter on the motor, this is all on one unit, heres a diagram pictur to help you , hope the info helps , good luck.
I have a Taurus 94 with transmision AX4S, my problem is this not connect the gear 1, 3, and 4, show me the read code tester the code 645, 647 and 648, I need help thank you
Check neutral safety switch... On automatic AW4 transmission it's on the passenger side, directly across from gear selector shaft. The two inner terminals on the side opposite the clip lever on the harness connector are the ones that operate starter. If you jump across these you should get voltage baqck to the small wire on the starter solenoid.(trigger) The switch itself is about $200, but can be rebuilt or replaced with a salvage yard part cheaply. Get a manual fro removal, and follow them carefully. PS: connector is up near ;the trans dipstick!
Check the braided groundstrap that goes from the firewall to the engine on the passenger side of the engine compartment. I bet its rotted off!
