I own a volvo s40 diesel s40 sport 2005. When I start the car from cold there is a slight buy loud noise has if the exhaust is knocking. Its sound like just one tappit clapping. Once the car warms up the nose dissapears. Could it the cannister purge valve. If so what are costs of replcing it. Can it be DIY

Check your PCV valve. Its the device that provides ventilation to the crankcase and valve covers. If its clogged or non functional it will cause the engine to **** or blow air from an area with less resistance, which is probably the filler cap. As its blowing air out of the engine it will shoot a little bit of oil with it

Depends if the engine is 3.0 or a 2.2?
3.0 purge is on the top, back side of the intake. Black, cylinder. Looks the same on a 2.2, but is located next to the air filter.

mine did this.lift the back seat and remove the fuel sender out the tank.youll see its full of gunk..

MOST TIME IF YOU GOT MISFIRE ON ALL CYLINDERS.YOU COULD HAVE AIR LEAK IN INTAKE MANIFOLD.OR PROBLEMS WITH EGR VALVE.ALSO YOU COULD HAVE A DIRTY OR STICKING FUEL INJECTOR AND A BAD COIL OR SPARK PLUG.
