Fast idle Ford 5.0 1990 Econoline e150 will not idle down after engine warms

Pull the idle air control valve off and clean the carbon out of it, make sure it can move freely. Then put it back together and see if that helped. Good luck.

I have a 1993 ford econoline E150 tht won't stay running

id do the 60k mile tune up first.
then if still bad.
find out if the problem is spark (test spark)
or bad fueling, check for flooding at any spark plug.
if not flooding (spark tips , read) then try test fuel.

if flooded try super secret unflood mode,
that is crank with wide open throttle.
if ISC is stuck closed, try cranking with 10% throttle (adds the missing air)

Wide open as in wide open throttle?? You mean the engine is racing? Something is wrong with the throttle controls, or the throttle valve in the carburetor may be sticking open. Look down the carb throat. At its base will be the throttle valves-"butterfly" valves just like the choke valve on top of carb. The throttle valve should be closed at rest, or at idle, or when gas pedal is not moved. Rotate the throttle lever on the carburetor by hand (when gas pedal is pressed down, the throttle is rotated). The throttle valve at the bottom of the carb should open and close with the throttle lever.
If the valve is sticking, spray some carburetor cleaner down it, and spray the outside clean, too. Work the throttle back and forth to make sure it is free to move.
For a high idle, have the carburetor adjusted. Timing should be checked, too-that can cause a high idle, but wouldn't cause it to go wide open.
Let us know what you find. Good luck.

Only runs full throttle

Disconnect the MAF sensor and see if it changes rpm's. Pull off the big boot at the intake. Is the throttle valve wide open? If it is, the throttle body assembly needs cleaning-maybe it is stuck?
Have you scanned for trouble codes?

1988 Ford E150 starts but idle is so high I have to shut it off cause is sound like I'm flooring the pedal. Where do I start. I want to do it myself. Thank you

check that the accelerator cable is allowing the throttle control to close otherwise that is exactly what you have .a wide open throttle

Fuel delivery problems?

Okay this vehicle is 27 years old. It may well have out lived its usefulness. Have you thought about getting a newer vehicle that does not cause such problems?

My 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis won't shift into higher gears, It's also got a really bad whine when u try n push it ... I've checked the transmission fluid and added more, but didn't seem to help, any other...

The first thing you need to check is the Throttle Valve Cable. This cable runs from the throttle body to the transmission and controls gear changes according to throttle position. It may have come disconnected from the throttle lever, or could even be stuck in a "wide-open" position. If this cable is okay then there is a real good chance that the direct clutches have failed. This clutch pack is used in 3rd and 4th gears.

Check gages sign comes up and car stalls out, causing it to shut off. Someone mentioned it is the idle position that maybe too low... also the gas pedal seems like it gets stuck sometimes and when I push...

Get you one of those carburator/throttle body cleaner and spray the throttle. ( Where the gas pedal cable is connected on the engine, that is where the throttle is). You would have to remove the intake hoses attached to it then work that throttle manually as you spray cleaner to it. This should get rid of the gas pedal getting stucked and maybe the low idle problem as well.

I recently replace the valve tappets on my 2000 e150, on the third day it happened again the rocker arm fell off, what could be causing this?

usually a lifter that extends too far making the valve stick too far open for a short time.My 2000 f 150 did that last summer.try using thinner oil or at least 5w30,or use a engine cleaner to clean the inside before a oil change(YOU CAN ALSO USE DIESEL FUEL TO CLEAN IT,JUST LET IT IDLE FOR A SHORT TIME,ABOUT 5 MINUTES)and i use a valvoline oil in mine.Of what i can think of is maybe dirt gets into the lifter causing oil NOT to drain out, causing the lifter to extend too far.
