Brake lights dont work, replaced bulbs, stop lite switch, no fuses blown

  • David Burke May 11, 2010

I would check the ground wires first. Also are you able to find out if there is power to the brake switch?

Trying raising the tilt on the steering wheel all the way up. Some times the connector for the MFS ( MultiFunction Switch ) pulls apart.
This is a 16 pin ( 4 rows of 4 pins ) connector behind the knee panel, Pull the knee panel ( screws on the bottom, plastic tabs on the top ) and check the connector. The harness side towards the truck ( not going to the steering wheel column ) pull up a bit of slack and zip tie it to the knee panel frame. Pull the connector apart and check the pins for discoloration. Use emery or an eraser to clean the pins. If the connector tab has been warped, you might have to zip tie the connector back together.
Not unheard of that this connector pulls apart, it was not installed on the 04+ MY F-150s, I can only assume to remove this issue.

Do the turn signals work? I know the brake lights are linked through the turn signal switch on my Escort. If the turn signal switch goes bad, my brake lights won't work either.

Why my stop lamp dont turn on when i stop

While if it was working before then there is little problems which you have to check steep by steep !
1. go check your car light bulbs & light grips on back of your car .
If Bulbs look good then.
2. check fuse in fuse box which is on driver side & on fuse box cover its written on stop lamp & you can check other fuse as well just to confirm if there is another shorting.
If all fuse are good then check .
3.Check brake pedal upper side there is one switch which have two wire out check there wire or grip if its have losing then it wont work.
if its look proper attached then .
4.This switch have threads which can be adjustable before taking any step to adjust just check when you are pressing a brake pedal there is a plastic needle working inside its come out or not ,If its come out then your brake light switch gone wrong or if its not coming then plastic needle is jammed inside & your car brake light not working.
Just to confirm if your brake switch is in good condition or in bad condition .
Okay this is final steep you have to check or confirm it switch problem .....
5. There is two wire on back of brake pedal switch or in a grip coming out , So if its in grip or just on clips, then take a wire piece & bypass or joint both wire which is coming from wire loom sid to brake pedal & check your brake lamps if its blink or on than 100% you car brake pedal switch is not working or inside its short , So replace your car brake pedal switch or if still not blink or On then there is some issue in your car wiring & you better check you car to you auto electrician......
Hopefully you will save your amount not to visit you auto electrician.
best of luck....

Dodge ram 1500 wiring diagram

Three places to look. 1) Brake lamp fuse, 2) Turn signal switch and 3) the brake pedal switch. Brake light power comes from the fuse up to the turn signal switch down to the brake lite switch on the brake pedal and then on to the light bulbs. Start by putting the 4 way flasher on. If the brake lites flash, then the bulbs are good. That eliminated the fuse too. so the problem is the other two.

2008 Ford Escape Brake Lights don't work and back turn signals

Sounds as if the bulbs are bad, but could also be a failed multi-purpose switch.

I assume the fuse has power if the hazards work.
The third brake light skips the turn signal switch, the regular brake light circuit goes thru the turn signal switch.
Do you have power going into the turn signal switch on the red lite green wire from the brake switch ?

Stop lites out but stop lite in back window works. Blinkers and hazard work. The fuse box contents do not match the fuse box diagram. Only think I noticed is that the ABS light does not come on at all...

An easy way to test the switch is to jumper the wires together. If the brake lights come on you know the switch is bad. If not, then you have to look elsewhere in the system to solve the problem.

Brake lights not working & can't find any bad fuses,& brake light switch replaced

why was brake light switch replaced? you need to check things before replacement. is the brake light switch getting power? if not the fuse is blown. if it is getting power, is power going out? if so, check for power at the bulbs, if no power find out why, if the bulbs do have power, they are not getting ground. the ground wire is in trunk, I really dont know exact location. may be near high mounted brake light.
