Bmw 318i e46 overheating

I own a bmw 318i e46. I notice that even after i fill up the water tank, the coolant light comes on within about 5km. I then pull over and check. The cap is very hot and steam comes out. The water tank is empty. What could be wrong?

Got a 2001 bmw 316 e46 just put a new expanshon tank on an coolant and its over heating the fan doesn't come on and it boils the coolant and steam comes from under bonnet ?? Any idea where to start (

If your losing coolant water pump may be leaking, not enough coolant will make it overheat. If not that, thermostat may be bad stuck open or shut. Hope this helps

Remove coolant hoses bmw 318i e46

Coolant hoses have a small clip on their upper side on most BMWs, you can pry this little metal clip up with a flathead screwdriver and the hose should slide off with little resistance.

Just got a 1998 bmw e46 318i se auto. Auto warning light was coming on frequent, and going into protection mode. Took to bmw dealer, who run tests, and filled with gear box fluid. Problem still occurs, but...

if the transmission was low on fluid you may have worn some parts, take this to a shop that specializes in BMW transmissions, this is not for the local transmission guy, special tools needed to test the transmission, may have to be re-programed

I have a bmw 318i e46 and she keeps overheating the 2 pipes from the raditor keeps filling with air. any idies

check your radiator for blockage, and have your cylinder block check for blockage. If everything is ok there. it could be the cylinderhead gasket has blown, and need's replacing.
