Brake light on dashboard lights up RED. Stays on a few seconds then fades then lights up again. The red light on the dashboard reads BRAKE so I'm calling it a brake light not sure what it is known as. Do I have a brake problem, a switch problem, or is it an indicator that my actual Brake light is abour to go out? thanks

CHECK OR HAVE SOMEONE CHECK BRAKE FLUID LEVEL, BE SURE PARKING BRAKE IS NOT ON!

If the brake hydraulic system red warning light comes on and stays on, this indicates... and seems to come on and off depending on whether the vehicle is turning, ... if it is discovered that the light was illuminating due to a low brake fluid level.

Because the brake pads have sensors on and when they wear down too far, they activate the brake warning light. Time for new brake pads!

Check the level of fluid in your brake booster filler, it is probably low.

howdy, when the solid red brake light is on without an ABS light, it is usually low brake fluid in the master cylinder reservoir or the brake fluid level sensor in the reservoir is stuck or defective. let me know if this helps you ...... good luck.

Hi the RED BRAKE LIGHT is also for low brake fluid
check the brake fluid level in most cases if the brake fluid is low you need the brakes replaced

is it a red light if so may be your brake sencer

When u power up the vehicle ABS does a self test(light stays on a few seconds then cuts off) and if it see's a problem will shut off and illuminate the ABS lamp. It will also do a second test on iself when you reach a speed of around 12-15 mph,it will run the pump for a few seconds to check pressure and look at the speed sensors,if it see a problem here it will again shut down and illuminate the ABS light.
Now if the red brake lamp is on then it will shut down because it thinks you have a hydraulic concern and will not try and run ABS if this is the case.
If red brake lamp is on most likely if you have good brakes it is a problem with the float sensor in the master cylinder reservior,maybe its bad or just stuck,or just low on fluid.

make sure u are not low on brake fluid,this will also illuminate the red brake light.
