Battery is being drained by something, its new

I have a 20002 Honda accord 2 door v6. I let the car sit for one day and when i went to get into it the keychain wouldn't unlock the car. I had to use the key to gain entry. I tried to start the car and it did nothing. Dead as a door nail. I jumped the car and upon touching the terminals the to the powered car the alarm went off and continued until i was able to reset it with a series of igintion turns and locks with the key chain. I had the battery tested and it was fine. The next day after 14 hours or so the battery was dead again. I had it tested again and it was dead holding only 3 volts. I just replaced the battery. I had it tested again over time and it checked out fine. I'm having slow starts, what can it be.

Sounds like you have a draw on the system that's draining your batt. A paristic draw test needs to be performed. The draw shouldn't exceed 50mA. A draw more than that will drain the battery in no time. Also check the alternator for proper operation and output. The low battery voltage from the draw can be causing your slow cranks in the morning. The rest of the day it probably cranks over fine, right. This is because the alternator is charging the battery while driving. The biggest culprit for exessive parisitic draw is aftermarket accessories. (alarm systems, remote starters, stereo amps ect.) If you don't have any aftermarket devices installed than it could be as simple as a light left on or as difficult as a faulty input to the body computer (B-can) which isn't allowing the computer to go to sleep. -hope this helps

2 things, not enought cold cranking amps, or while you where trying to start the car the brushs inside the starter caused a ark on the armature causing the starter not to be working at 100% option 1 have a drain test done or 2 replace the starter the drain test will show how much amps its taking to spin the starter if its pulling a high amount of amps/votage to spin the start then replace starter

Battery keeps going dead. Installed new Honda battery, checked charging rate while running, 14.5 volts and battery static voltage is 12.65. After sitting for one day, car won't start, lights but no sound,...

diode pack on the alternator is most likely suspect ,alternator will charge but drains to earth when not running ,pull the big terminal lead off and see if it goes flat overnight

After sitting for three days, my '96 Honda will not start. I get clicking noises but no starting. What can this be?

I would assume your battery cables are loose or the battery has drained itself somehow. Try cleaning your cables and tightening them. You made need to boost it or put a charger on it for a while. If you need to recharge the battery, either you have a poor battery that is no longer holding a charge, or something is draining it while it sits. Could be a trunk light, or glovebox light, or many other things.

2003 Honda Accord. Dies when I try to put it in drive

you are having a problem with your alternator. the battery has a main purpose to start the vehicle, keep computer memory, and give power to electrical components when the key is in the on position. the alternator charges the battery and gives power to electrical components when the vehicle is running. now when you hit the brakes there was an extra load added to the alternator and if the car died then the alternator is running very weak and needs to be relace.

Unable to crank after sitting

Interesting problem. There are a number of things that can contribute to these symptoms: Battery not holding charge, charging system not working, bad/corroded battery and/or starter cable connections, and of course something draining the battery when the ignition is off.

Before doing these tests, make sure the battery is fully charged by disconnecting it from the car and charging it 24 hours with an external battery charger.

Is the charging system (alternator) working? Accords have an idiot light, not an ammeter/voltmeter, so it could be your car isn’t charging and the indicator light is burned out. Connect a voltmeter to a fully charged battery and observe the voltage (should be about 13.8 volts). Now start the car and observe the voltage again, should be higher than before (around 15 volts). If the voltage doesn’t increase at least slightly either the alternator belt is loose and slipping or the alternator is bad.

Are the battery terminals tight/clean? Any corrosion on the terminals or wires? How about the end that connects to the starter? How about the ground wire to chassis? Any corrosion could produce an intermittent connection problem that acts like a dead battery.

The battery may be new…but is it good? Charge it, connect it and confirm the car starts. Then DISCONNECT the battery, let sit 24 hours, re-connect and try to start. If the battery now acts dead maybe it is bad. Exchange under warranty.

And last, something is discharging the battery. First question, do you have any non-Honda add-ons like an aftermarket audio system with a power amp? Audio power amps have a direct wire to the battery for greater power, if the amp isn’t turning off then you’ll have a drain. Try disconnecting such equipment and see if your problem goes away. If that’s not it connect an ammeter in series with the battery with the ignition OFF and start pulling fuses one by one until you find what’s causing the drain.

Hope this helps!
