Usually you have to be at TDC for piston #1 after the compression stroke. There will be a spot/mark/indentation on each gear. There should also be spots on the timing belt. Everything should line up.
Your engine is a 'interference fit" so if the belt breaks, or isn't installed correctly, things will start banging together and it will get real expensive to fix.
