The timing belt on most four and six cylinder imports should be replaced every 60 to 80,000 miles . You can pull the timing belt inspection cover and examine the belt for cracks in the cogs on the inner side of the belt that makes contact with the timing gears.

The timing belt is due at 60,000 miles. This is real critical. If you are in nedd of a schedule to go by then email me at [email protected] and I can send you a full schedule. Also send how many miles are currently on the vehicle and which engine(4 or 6 cylinder). DO NOT SKIMP ON THESE, USE THE HYUNDAI/KIA OIL FILTERS!! There are current recalls regarding the oil filters and the oil light on the dash. I have worked at the dealer as a Master Tech, so please heed this warning.

Hi, I just bought a 2004 Kia Optima, 85,000 miles. It is in a pretty good condition, but I would like to know what kind of maintenance I should do at this time, or what I should take in consideration. ...

I would consider a tune up and oil change so that you have a starting point for your own record keeping. Then you can keep your own maintenance schedule. Also it might be beneficial to have your cooling system flushed and have all of your fluids topped off.

Need diagram for 2001 kia optimal timing belt

Easy, go to the following KIA tech website: http://www.kiatechinfo.com/index.asp They have an online service manual for almost all Kias. Just provide your email address and a password and you're in. It's a little difficult to navigate at first, but you will get the hang of it. You want the shop manual for the MS series Optima. Just follow the listings into the engine section, and the timing belt is in there. All diagrams are printable. This is a free website that anyone can access. good luck.

2004 KIA Optima LX timing belt/water pump

The thing is your doing the timing belt the water pump is right their with it . it should cost you much more at all besides the cost of the water pump. When doing a timing belt I have a rule that I go by The timing belt/seals =cam , crank , any pulley & tensioner & water pump all get replaced at the same time. I did a t-belt on a Audi A-8 very complex whole front of car has to come off as well, he didnt want to do w-pump & thermostat his thermostat was their as well not even a month later the water pump gave out he had to pay double the price because he didnt want to do it when I had it apart the first time. And make sure mechanic is ase certified . good luck

Can't find the fuel filter in a 2005 kia optima

klaudie: This car does not really get serviced very often unless there are contaminants in the tank. I checked the Kia factory maintenance schedule and there is NO reference to fuel filter replacement. It seems that many manufacturers are now just putting screens or socks in the tanks before the fuel pump and no longer use fuel filters. KIA just puts a fine screen before the fuel pump. The pump is in the fuel tank which warrants it's removal to access the pump.
A strong word of advise of this engine!!!!!
Do NOT let the timing belt go beyond 60,000 miles. I could find no reference in Kia's maintenance schedule for timing belt replacement. According to them it's a judgment call by the tech! THAT IS TOTAL INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If the belt breaks in this engine you will trash the upper end of the motor and be spending big bucks! Nearly all automotive manufacturers had scheduled timing belt replacements at 60,000 miles and suddenly a lot of them just extended the time and distance, but the part numbers, manufacturers and designs didn't appear to have changed. I have had many cars in my shop where people did not heed my warning. Some get lucky and others have to hock their kids fo afford the cost of their negligence.
