Do you mean the engine overheat warning? The power steering problem is most likely a defective steering rack, they always act up when hot due to internal seal leakage and fluid bypassing the seal.
Are you sure that you don't have power steering? It sounds to me like you have a leak in your power steering and low on fluid. The battery light is usually an indication that your alternator is not charging.
I think that the hard steering and the charge light is telling you that the drive belt is missing or is badly need of replacing as the common unit to both your problems is the drive belt.
open hood and check your belts sounds like your alternator power steering belt broke or came off thats why light came on and steering is hard dont keep driving could cause engine problems also cause belt might turn water pump too causing you to over heat
My gut reaction is you have a slipping or a missing belt. Belts drive both the alternator (no power = battery light on) and hard to steer (belt drives power steering pump).
From the sounds of it, that pothole messed up your steering. Something is binding in the steering train, could be a damaged tie rod end, one of the other steering joints, or even the rack and pinion steering itsself. When it's binding, the power steering pump has to work too hard, slowing the engine down, making your lights dim because it's also slowing the alternator(on the same belt drive) and furthering your steering problem. You need to get it checked out immediately before something breaks and gets you into an accident. Remember, if steering linkage breaks, you have NO control of your vehicle, and it doesn't care if you're driving 70 mph on the highway.
Take the car in for a new serpentine belt and tensioner right away before you destroy the engine. The alternator, power steering pump and waterpump are not turning right now because the belt has come off. The battery will die soon because it is not charging, and the engine will overheat and perform it's own little rendition of the china syndrome. When the red warning lights in the dash come on, it generally means; park it unless you're being shot at.
