You have a bad EGR valve. Is your check engine light on? If you don't want to fix it right now, just unplug the EGR valve. It will run fine.
I have a 2000 Sebring, same problem, but after research, found that it was actually the IDLE CONTROL VALVE MOTOR, located right underneath the throttle body. A $20 part on-line, easy to r&r. Trust me,... it's probably NOT the EGR valve. :)
