My cars Speedometer will not work. Everything else on the cluster will work but that. Also it will not let the odomitor move eather. I hooked up a scan tool and the Speed registers on it but it will not on my cluster.
everything is pluged up and i even took a volt metter and checked for connection between the cluster and the plug there is connection also i got another one out of a junk yard and everything on it works but my speedomoder still doesnt work? Your speedometer is plugged into your tramsmisson, So the plug could have came loose or unconnected all the way. So follow your cable down to the trans and see if its connected all the way. Hope this helps you

No fuse just for the speedometer , fuse for whole instrument cluster . No reset either , hooking up a factory scan tool to check for DTC's - diagnostic trouble codes in the instrument cluster or BCM - body control module . Could be a bad stepper motor in the instrument cluster . GM vehicles from 2003 to 2006 had bad stepper motors . How to repair GM Instrument Cluster Speedometer Gauge Stepper
Put everything back the way it was and see if speedometer starts working again?
Newer instrument clusters, the gages are not hardwired, The cluster receives buss data telling the instrument what to do with gages and speedometer. Checking the speedometer/vss sending unit would be a thought. Hopefully, you didn't hurt the instrument cluster?
What is year--make--model?
if the odometer is working then the problem is with the speedometer head unit as the odometer gets its information from the same source as the speedometer. you can have the speedometer head checked and fixed if its fixable.
this sounds like a bad speedometer cluster, you stated everything else works so i assume the speedometer is working and just the odometer and trip stopped working and so the speedometer will need replacing. good day.
have him check all the fuses and i mean all of them.some fuses feed other fuses.also make sure the radio is not hooked up to any comp. comm. wires. they are always in a twisted pair
If your's has one it hooks in the side of the transmission. Most newer cars are electronic. There is a small motor that drives the speedo. After you get the instrument cluster out it is easy to change. Make sure you can buy the motor before you take the cluster out.
I worked for Buick from 90-93 as an A tech. The Regals and Cutlass had defective clusters. There is not much you can do other than replace the cluster. (is everything else working on the cluster?)
I had a 1990 cutlass that the odometer quit at 199000. I just kept driving it, or I should say my son kept driving it.

pages 183-189 talk about fuses and tell you what they are and the correct fuse amp to use.
I too had some of the problems you are experiencing. my speedometer and odometer quit working and the abs light came on and aldo my cruise control quit.
I replaced the fuse and that fixed everything at once.
