If the timing belt or chain is broken, or if there is no oil pressure, the car will not start to protect the engine from damage. Check these two items.

1997 mazda 626 won't start.

Are the plugs wet with fuel?
Check for spark. No spark? it may be the ignition module.

Plugs dry and spark present? No fuel?Spray a little starting fluid and see if it will run on that.
Then check pump fuses and for fuel pump noise.

My 94 Mazda 626 quits running while I am driving, but starts right back up. i have replaced egr valve and fuel filter. fuel pump tested out at 40 PSI

Your "crank angle sensor" may be getting to the end of its life: the fault you have described is a common symptom of this failure. The sensor is easy to replace but not cheap to purchase.

I have a 99 Mazda 626 that just quits running when you are driving down the road. Today it quit and I waited about 20 minutes and it started right up. Anyone know what could be causing this?

Try replacing the ignition switch underneath the steering collar. Pop of the top then the bottom you need a screw driver or ratchet cant remember. Its very easy to replace. I suggest buying a repair manual to see what it looks like. Very small part smaller then your hand. The part cost 100 or less with life time warranty. DO NOT BUY IT FROM THE MAZDA DEALER. They warranty their part for only 9 months? Or 30k miles.

If it starts to putter or not stay on and turn off like you describe it maybe the switch. When you install it first it may shudder or have a high rpm. I think it does this because the main computer is trying to adjust. You may have to turn it off 5 or six times or drive around the block a few times to get it to adjust. I have replaced mine twice already since I have hit 234,000k miles on it. It does burn out and my car at times will not start or turn and try to turn of while I’m driving and stop at a light with low rpms.
