Where is the brake light fuse in a 2001 grand cherokee, not getting any power to the light bulbs and or the trailer plug.

Have you checked the brake light fuse to see if there is power at the fuse and out of the fuse, also check the brake light switch for power in and out when the pedal is pressed, do that and get back to me.?

Have you checked the fuse box under the hood? There are seperate fuses for the truck lights and the trailer lights. If the fuses look good use a 12 volt test light to check for power on the turn signal pins when the brake is pushed. The brake lights and turn signals use the same wires to work. Power here would indicate the wiring and fuses on the truck is all good, meaning the trouble is on the trailer. Check the bulbs to be sure they are the correct ones, they should be dual element bulbs. Make sure you have a good ground on the trailer, usually the white wire in the 4 way plug is grounded to the trailer frame, do not depend on the trailer ball to be the ground, this is asking for trouble.

Go to: http://www.2carpros.com/forum/2001-jeep-grand-cherokee-laredo-brake-lights-not-working-vt4814.html Tip: If you have a small piece of medal to put under the ground contact point then it will keep it raised in place, i used a really big staple from a staple gun to slide under mine I also replaced all the sockets that the bulbs go into cause mine were falling apart and may have been a part of the problem.

no theres a switch its just way up in the dash.check fuses if it has a trailer hitch chec to make sure the trailer plug splices or connectors are good.there are fuses under the hood also. check every fuse not just one that says brake light some fuses feed other fuses
are you sure the bulbs didnt burn out one at a time and you just noticed it because the last one burned out?

first check fuse, then check bulbs if not either of those then bad brake switch, which is located at the top of the brake pedal. I'm sure you're reading this thinking ok **** I know it's not the bulbs......I have a 99 that had no brake lights at all. Like a **** I didn't check the bulbs til last thing what's the odds of all 3 bulbs blowing at the same time. They were though, all 3 blown.

You may just have 2 bulbs out. Remove the socket from the housing and check it with a test light, while having a friend step on the brake. If you have no power at either side, check all related fuses and make sure your trailer harness connector doesn't look like a green fuzzball.

First thing to do is chk. the fuse for break lights, if thats ok, than i would say its the break light switch. As far as the right taillight, that could be as simple as a bad bulb.

replace the brake light switch, but first check the bulb and fuses

sometimes the actual sockets go bad where you plug your bulbs into dust water ect gets in and sometimes its just faulty.i know im a tech for chrysler jeep and dodge but they are not cheap if you have a test light use it and touch the inside where the bulb goes if there is power then its not that.could also have a short.

If you have power to the trailer plug. Then check and if you have power to your bulbs. Remember to check your third brake light bulb also.
