There are 2 3.0L engines used in 1989. One has a flat distributor cap with the plug towers coming out sideways and the other has a conventional cap with the plug towers protruding vertically. Both have a firing order of 1-2-3-4-5-6 (Gee, that's hard one to remember!... LOL ;) ) The ditributor cap should have the cylinder numbers cast into it at each plug tower - most Mitsubishi caps do. The cylinders are numbered 1-3-5 on the right bank and 2-4-6 on the left bank.
it is fuel injected and the injectors are in a manifold at the inlet manifold
most misfires are injector related ( dirty tips , low fuel pressure or injector wiring harness) get a workshop manual from an auto parts shop

Does not have adjustable valves . It has hydrolic valve lasher's . they are spring loaded ( i believe ) . I just replaced them in mine . valve giude seal's where worn out causing it to smoke realy bad ( looked like a mosqito truck ) and the valves where ticking , due to the hydrolic valve lash adjuster's being worn out . They are about $ 8 - 10 buck's each at advance .
