Make sure you have the right head gasket and its oriented correctly .. you could have a clogged or blocked oil passageway thru the block and head/cam .. or a spun bearing on the head where the cam mounts. there is a hole in the bearing that must line up with the oil passagway ..

I have a 1991 gmc sierra and my oil pressure is dropping down to zero and it has began to knock it was not knocking or anything until i noticed my brake light was flashing now i reset the computer but

These symptoms usually mean you have a failed main or big end bearing in the engine. If it gets more noticeable as the engine warms up, that type of failure is even more likely. If the knocking varies with revs it is more likely a big end. You may be able to get the sump off without pulling out the engine, and do an inspection.

I can't think what the brake warning light would have to do with all that.

Ive rebuilt the oil pump on my 98 bonneville and the oil pressure is still low and causes my motor to knock

The problem isn't with the oil pump. The oil pumps job is to move oil around the engine. What the problem is, the main and rod bearings are so worn out that it can't create oil pressure anymore. That's why you have a knock in the bottom end of the engine. The tighter the clearances are at the main/rod bearings, the better the oil pressure you'll have. The cam bearings also play a roll in producing oil pressure.

Oil pressure dropped to zero..husband didnt check oil, just poured in a quart of oil... we drove about 15 miles with NO oil pressure showing..and then white smoke came out rear of car, and the car died....

Dear friend, wow, from what you described, i hate to give you my opinion but someone needs to. Remember always get a second opinion and a third if need be. It sounds like someone was oil happy more than just that once on that fateful day. I could be wrong but Ive never seen one extra quart of oil kill a car. Ive seen it ruin rings and cause a car to smoke and blow gaskets but to kill a car, literally, there was more than just one quart too much. I have seen what FIVE extra quarts will do.... even four..... it will Kill your car for good. Oil does not compress so as it is forced into the fuel chamberdue to excessive oil in the block, those pistons are pushing up against cement. well oil but anything that doesnt compress has the same effect.... cement. the more oil in the chamber the less chamber left for compressionand combustion. the rods will either bend or snap. the whole engine is compromised. You might be lucky and just blew some major gaskets but I dont think so. when an oil pressure gauge shows zero all of a sudden it doesnt necessarily mean that the oil pump is out although it could but not usually, it more than fifty percent of the time means that your oil pressure sensor/sending unit needs replacement. they go out way more often than the pump does. when i come across a car that really does have an "oil pump" out..... i choose a different car. Cause for an engine to wear out a oil pump..... that engine is tired and beyond its wear in miles. Thats my own opinion. Now back to your car....... pull the spark plugs... what do they look like ? If they are oily, real oily... get a new car. if not please let me know and well go from there. i woulod be glad to walk you thru the process of what to do next.

Dodge 2.7 I'm losing oil pressure after car warms up. When starting pressure is reading on manual gauge 60 PSI. Once it warms up it drops to Zero. New oil pump, oil pan and pickup tube clean. Any...

The first stop is to measure the pressure with an external gauge. if the readings are the same, surgery is needed, I would look at the oil pressure relief valve for foreign particles.

It takes resistance to make pressure, and your decsription does not sound good. If the pressure is actually dropping, and you find no issues with the oil pump and pick up, you need to measure bearing clearances... Essentially, everywhere oil is pumped needs to be inspected...

89 vw cabriolet oil light comes on....

I would say you might have a weak oil pump. you should try and change the sensor first so u can make sure that its not the sensor.

2005 GMC 3500 PU LOW OIL PRESSURE 6 LITER ENG

You didn't say how many miles were on the truck or if there was any clunking down around the oil pan. If your pressure gauge is wandering, your oil pressure sending unit may be bad. If the sending unit is OK, it is time to drop the oil pan.

You may have to drop the tie rod or sway bar to get it out. Check the oil pick-up screen for blockage. If it is clear, check the oil pump for excess play. Replace if needed. If the screen is blocked, clean it by soaking in solvent, replace the oil pump, drop the rod and main bearing caps and examine the crank bearing surfaces. If they are in good condition, you can buy .001" undersized bearings. Lubricate generously and reassemble. Torque to the correct setting, then put the pan back on. This job can be done by one or two moderately skilled back yard mechanics if supplied with a case of beer.

If the bearing surfaces are scarred, take the crankshaft out and take it to a machine shop. You are going to have to take out the timing chain on the front end and unbolt the torque converter or flywheel from the back end of the crank. This job requires a good bit more skill, so unless you have an expert mechanic on speed dial, take it to a shop.
