Use WD40 spray and spry inside lock,Dirt can cause the sensor to stay open circuit either if it door is open or closed. Spray and open and close door few times, and repeat it till light goe's out.

Sensor display says there is a door open

Look around inside door frames for little switch, usually looks like a stubby thin finger, with doors open, press them in/out few times, they spring back out when released. Do a door at a time and check dash for warning light. That will tell you if any of the sensors is at fault. Good luck. Red.

Doors are shut close and interior lights stays on

The tiny door "ajar" micro switch that senses the door position (open or closed) is a real problem in these years of all Fords, the switch is twisted into the door latch inside the door, there are 2 switches in the rear tailgate and one for each front door and then a contact switch plate for the side cargo door ( a different design). To replace all these switches is quite a job, but hold on, the dealer can scan the system with a special tool that reads the switch position, with this he can see exactly which switch is the problem, this aves time and money in the long of it. Many independent shops have a similar tool as well that can read the switch position.

MY DOME LIGHTS STAY ON EVEN WHEN ALL THE DOORS ARE SHUT ON MY 96 WINDSTAR THE DASHBOARD IDIOT LIGHT STATES THAT THERE IS A DOOR AJAR BUT ALL DOORS CLOSED. I CLEANED ALL CONTACTS ON BACKDOOR AND SLIDING...

Spray lubricant in the driver's and passenger door latches. One of the switches in the latch are sticking. Open and close the door several times to free up the switch.

1996 ford windstar interior lights stay on battery goes dead

One of the door "sensors" (Door light switches) are to blame - they are usually mounted in the body, and determine the door is open (door position) to supply the ground to the lighting circuit...You can either locate and replace the faulty one, (unplugging each from the back-side removes them individually from circuit)--(Remember to shut all doors, then open one door and remove the connector to each switch to eliminate it from the circuit - until the light goes off- when it goes off- you have found yor culprit) or just pop-out the dome light bulb if it is a high miles car that you aren't interested in repairing,,,,but want the battery to stay charged....Hope that helps - the switches are usually about $5 or $6 each I think,,,,so it's just a bit of effort and time.

1999 ford windstar

This is usually caused by the switches sticking in the door latches. Try spraying some WD40 in the latches and open and close the doors a bunch of times that should take care of it.

95 ford windstar door ajar stays on and interior lights stay on and not able to find door ajar sensors

These switches are inside the doors attached to the door latch assembles. If you know some one with a scan tool you can go into the body computer and see which one is showing open when all the doors are closed. The most likly one is the drivers side door or the two in the rear gate. I've replaced those the most.If you don't want to replace them you can unplug them and the lights will go off. Hope this helps. If you need more info let me know> Thanks Dan
