I HAVE A 2005 KIA SORENTO V-6. MY PROBLEM STARTED WHEN I WOULD DRIVE ON TO THE HWY IT WOULD PUTTER LIKE IF I WAS LOSING POWER. THE HOLE TIME THIS WAS GOING ON MY GAS GAGE WOULD NOT WORK. SO I WENT OUT TO AUTO ZONE HERE IN MADERA CA AND BOUGHT A DIAGNOSTIC TESTER AND THE CODE NUMBER P0338 WHICH MEANS CRANK SHAFT CENSER IS GONE. SO WHEN YOUR GAS GAGE STOP WORKING GET YOUR CAR TESTED OR THE BEST WAY TO GO IS TO INVEST IN A DIAGNOSTIC TESTER. IT WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY

SOURCE: crankshaft position sensor location

Hello. One way to check if it is working is when you try to start the car does the needle move on you tac? If not then your crank sensor is more then likely the problem. It is located on the backside of the engine under the intake manifold. If is in about the center of the block. There will be a 10mm bolt holding the sensor in. If you decide to change it yourself (not to terrible of a job) unplug the sensor, remove the bolt and spin it back and forth slightly while pulling it out. It may be stoburn and you might have to work at it for a little bit (not a done of room) but it will come. When it's out the sensor will be shaped kind of like an L. I have changed a few of these over time and they can be a little stoburn. To install just reverse the process.

SOURCE: where is the crankshaft position/crank

Hi, at the front of the crankshaft. if its near time for the timing belt, you want to replace it along with any pullies, tensioner and water pump

The crankshaft position sensor is mounted on the engine near the crankshaft.

Operation

The crankshaft position sensor is a Hall-Effect sensor that senses the crank angle (piston position) of each cylinder and converts it into a pulse signal. The signal from the sensor is relayed to the ECM to indicate engine rpm and the position of the crankshaft.

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Disconnect the connector from the sensor.
  3. Remove the bolt that retains the sensor in place.
  4. Remove the sensor from its mounting. To install:
    1. Installation is the reverse of the removal procedure.
    2. Clearance between the sensor and the sensor wheel should be 0.020-0.059 inch. 2002-2005
      1. Properly connect the scan tool.
      2. Start the engine and allow it to idle.
      3. Be sure the idle position switch is ON.
      4. Specifications are as follows:

Temperature - 4°F, test specification 1500-1700 RPM Temperature 32°F, test specification 1350-1550 RPM Temperature 68°F, test specification 1200-1400 RPMTemperature 104°F, test specification 1000-1200 RPM Temperature 176°F, test specification 650-850 RPM

SOURCE: Where is the crank shaft positioning sensor

Look at the area around the crankshaft pulley. It's bolted to the block and senses the crank position. If it fails, You won't have an ignition spark. Good Luck, Ned

SOURCE: where is the crank position sensor located in 2005

Hello martinezmelm: My name is Roger and I can answer your question. To locate the crankshaft position sensor. You will need to remove the timing cover. You will find the sensor on top of the crankshaft gear. Between the V of the timing belt.
Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer as this way I know it was helpful. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Why can't i get a picture of crankshaft position sensor for my 2009 Kia Sedona I don't need a picture of any other year or model why is that so difficult

Some of the previous answers you have been provided were from individuals who market their 'service manuals' on Fixya.
I don't have a picture for you, but I've researched, and according to Wikipedia, the Sedona had a 3.8L V6 in the North American market from 2006 through 2012 (and later?). I found a video on YouTube for a Kia Sorento with the same engine, and it shows the location of the crankshaft sensor. I'm pretty certain it will be the same on your vehicle. See the link.

I have a 03 kia sorento that i just changed the timing belt and water pump on. It drove fine for about 10 mins but then stalled. After 15 mins it starts, runs for 10 mins, rough again and stalls out.

run fault codes
check for wiring on crank shaft position sensor or cam position sensor/s
it will be something that was affected by the belt replacement procedure

How do you change battery cables in a 2005 kia sorento lx

If a car like yours dies while driving then I would suspect a fuel pump issue or a crank position sensor issue. Has your timing belt been replaced? that should be done at 100k miles. If the timing belt is coming apart it will throw pieces of itself onto the crank position sensor. Have someone check the fuel pressure and inspect the timing belt and crank sensor.

Location of camshaft position sensor for 2005 Kie Sorento

If it's an overhead cam, which I think it is, then it should be toward the very front of the engine, likely within the timing case. There should be some wires coming from it. It's usually a small black sensor.
