First, disconnect four-wire connector at distributor, start and warm up the engine. You should get a check engine light because the computer does not receive the engine rotation signal when the connector is disconnected.
Set the timing to 15 Degrees Before Top Dead Center at idle, then reconnect the four wire connector at the distributor when finished.
Assuming the engine was re-assembled correctly with the all timing marks properly aligned, and the number 1 piston at top dead center in relation to the timing marks on the crankshaft, camshaft, and counterbalncing shaft, the computer sets the timing.
These are great engines, but they can be fun to work on, if you know what I mean.
