I have a 2002 and front rear isnt working. transfer case shifts fine. front drive shaft turnes but front wheels dont. is front rearend rebuildable

Check the front axle actuator. make sure it is getting signal to actuate, but these actuators are notorious for problems. most likely the actuator is bad. it is on passenger side of differential/axle housing. plastic cylinder with wires.

The New Venture Gear NV233 is an electronic shift transfer, with the following three modes of operation, Two-wheel drive high range, Four-wheel drive high range, Four-wheel drive low range. The gear reduction for low range is provided by a planetary gear set. The floor-mounted shifter has been eliminated. A switch, located on the upper right side of the instrument panel, is used to select the operating range. The indicator lamps on the switch show the current mode of operation. When the four-wheel drive has been selected, the four-wheel drive indicator lamp on the switch is designed to turn on when the front axle has engaged.


Automatic Transfer Case
The single speed automatic transfer case system shifts automatically from rear wheel drive to four wheel drive when the transfer case shift control module (TCSCM) senses the difference in rotation speed of the front propeller shaft and the rear propeller shaft . Two vehicle speed sensors, one located at the rear output shaft area of the transfer case, and the other, located at the front output shaft area of the transfer case, send front and rear propeller shaft rotation speed information to the TCSCM.
When the front and rear output shaft rotations remain the same, the TCSCM sends pulse width modulation signals to the encoder/motor to keep the transfer case in rear wheel drive. When the front and rear output shafts rotations are different, the shift control module sends pulse width modulation signals to the encoder/motor to engage the transfer case into four wheel drive.
The system will automatically transfer a percentage of torque to either the front or rear axles as required to stop all wheel slip. When the front and rear output shafts rotations return to the same speed rotation, the shift control module sends pulse width modulation signals to the encoder/motor to position the transfer case back into rear wheel drive.
When the transfer case is engaged into four wheel drive, a lamp indicator on the instrument cluster will light. The automatic transfer case system is completely automated, no transfer case control button switching system is required.

I have a Suzuki Jimmy manual 4x4 year 2002 can I flat tow it on a Aframe behind a motorhome

welcome to USA forum
the country with not ONE< JIMNY,
but i can answer
there are 4 ways to tow this is but 1.
backwards towing is best way or drop rear drive shaft (ask)
flat tow 101:
the Jimny is SJ413 here,called Samurai.
the transfer case sets this rule (most rear device)
that rules is dont flat tow it, more that 200 miles
the rear bearing has no lube actions towed
here is the near same transmissions.

and rules (of xfr case)
ill quote my 2001 Vitara, (same setup.)

Follow these steps:
1. Set the parking brake.
2. Shift your automatic transmission into PARK (P), or
your manual transmission to SECOND (2).
3. With the ignition key in the ON position, move the
transfer case to NEUTRAL and make sure the 4WD
light on the instrument panel cluster is off. See
"Four-Wheel Drive" in the Index.
4. Turn the ignition key to ACC to unlock the
steering wheel.
5. Release the parking brake
If you tow your four-wheel-drive vehicle from
the front, make sure to move the transfer case
into NEUTRAL or your vehicle could be badly
damaged and the damage would not be covered
by your warranty.
Stop towing every 200 miles (300 km) and start the
engine. Leave the transfer case shift lever in
NEUTRAL. Shift your automatic transmission to
DRIVE (D); leave a manual transmission in
SECOND (2) with the clutch engaged. Run the engine at
medium speed for one minute to circulate oil in the
transfer case. Turn the ignition key to ACC. Now, you
can continue towing your vehicle.
The front wheels transmit shocks during towing.
The steering column may not be strong enough to
withstand the shocks. Always unlock the steering
wheel before towing.
Make sure that the towing speed does not
exceed 50 mph (80 km/h), or your vehicle could
be badly damaged

not how the 5speed box is in 2nd.
this is to keep it from spinning, and its rear bearing damaged.
there are 2 bearings to worry the rear 5sp and rear transfer case.

on ours, we use an electric oil'er pump added to transfer case.
unlimited tow. (wires power feed from RV via coupler.)
or the drives shaft decoupling device, (not cheap)
or we drop the rear, of prop shaft, and tie up the rear up high
so it cant drop nor let it fall of rear of transfer cases
we use bunji cords, for up,
and then pull the front,
if the prop shaft falls out, you will lose GL4 gear lube out rear
of the transfer case. it falls out so very easy, off that spine.
there are all ways flat,
done them all.,

My 2002 duramax wont shift into four wheel drive it says it signal that it does and both actruators seem to be working when i spin my front drive shaft the fronts turn and i here a clicking noise in the...

2002 duramax ?????? What make , model ???? Chevy - GMC which transfer case , how many buttons on the control switch or is it a dial ? These system's have electronic control modules , can set DTC'S -diagnostic trouble codes . Your best bet , take it to a qualified repair shop.

2002 Silverado 1500 push button 4 wheel drive issue Light will light showing it is in 4 wheel drive but it is not. Auto button seems to work though.

2 speed electric shift transfer case problems #1 jack up truck place on 4 jack stands. Start and select 4 high position in drive release brake ad watch front driveshaft does it turn "yes" problem is axle actuator on passenger side of differential not engaging axle shaft. "no" apply brakes bring to a stop engage low range does low range work "yes" internal transfer case problems "no" electric transfer case shifting motor failure.

Auto part stores can't read these , your best bet take it to a qualified repair shop . One that has the knowledge an diagnostic equipment .

How to remove a transmission out of a 2002 z71

Remove rear drive shaft from ******, remove front drive shaft from transfer case, remove shift linkage, fluid lines(plug so they don't leak the fluid out) and wire harness from both t-case and ******, unbolt and remove T-case, using a support to hold ****** up, remove crossmember and unbolt ****** from bell housing, slide back and down to remove ******.

I have a 2002 ford f150 xlt fx4 4.6l engine. 2 door reg cab. i have a 4 wheel drive shift lever. the 4 wheel will only engage on rare occasion and only after pulling into 4 low then to 2 high then back...

For the 2002 MY ( this is in the 2006 Section, just want to call it out to others that might find the solution, this does not apply to the 2006 MY )

Operationally vacuum shifts the front axle between 2WD and 4WD mode. The GEM ( Generic Electronics Module ) applies ground to the solenoid needed for the mode selected on the switch ( for ESOF ) or when the transfer case shift lever is moved ( MSOF ).The contact plates in the transfer case signal the GEM that the transfer case is engaged, and the Vacuum solenoids need to be activated ( either 2WD to 4WD or 4WD to 2WD ).


Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
- If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
- If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

- If the front drive shaft does not turn :
•With the truck running ( with front wheel back on the ground ), switch from 2WD to 4WD and back again, the vacuum shift motor should move the lever on the front axle.

-- If the vacuum shift motor does not move:
1.Check for vacuum on the lines while shifting between modes. Pink vacuum line is 2WD mode, Light Blue vacuum line is 4WD.
2.Check the fuses for the 4WD system and the solenoids.
3.Check the vacuum lines from the vacuum shift motor to the solenoids on the firewall.
4.Check the vacuum lines from the solenoids to the vacuum reservoir box behind the battery.
5.Check the vacuum reservoir box for cracks.
6.Typical solution is the vacuum lines ( to the solenoids or to the vacuum shift motor ) are cracked or the vacuum shift motor has a cracked diaphragm and has water in it.
7.Could be the shift plate contacts in the transfer case are corroded / not making good contact, and not activating the solenoids.

- If the front drive shaft turns:
For MSOF systems
-- Check that the shift linkage on the transfer case is moving when the lever is moved from 2W to 4H and 4L.

I am going to take a SWAG that it is 1 of 2 places, both cases the front drive shaft is locking into place.

1. The front vacuum shift motor is not moving ( vacuum or vacuum line issue ).
2. The contact plates for the shift motor are not making contact and are not signalling the GEM that the transfer case state has been changed.

I'd start with the front axle off the ground test, and see which way to go, before you start repalcing items.

My 1992 wrangler won't roll at all. It starts fine, and stays running but when I try to put it in gear it stalls out. Even in neutral, I can't seem to push it to get it rolling. Any suggestions?

This sounds bad, even in neutral it stalls, you cant even push it. i would start by putting the transfer case selector in neutral and see if it rolls, if this jeep is only two wheel drive then start by jack the front wheels up and do this for the four wheel drive also, this is to see if its in the trany or the wheel, check and see if you can spin the wheels in the front, if this is two wd then if the wheels dont spin then you have a problem with the brakes but what concerns me is that it stalls in neutral, i would have to say the problem is in the trany and if this is a stick shift trany i would say the clutch broke and will not release but when its in neutral it should roll. anyway do the same in the rear wheels, jack them up and see if the wheels move, if they dont then remove the driveshaft at the rearend and then see if the wheels move. if the wheels turn with shaft off then theres a problem with the trany oor transfer case if its 4wd, if its 2wheel drive then its something in the trany, if the wheels dont spin with shaft off then start truck and see if it still stalls but dont let it go into gear with driveshaft off you will not be able to stop driveshaft when disconnected, just see if it stalls in neutral. good luck.

My 2003 F-150 will not engage the 4-wheel drive when the switch is turned on? Two days ago it worked fine and the light does come on?

Lift and support the front of the truck so the front wheels are off the ground ( take safety precautions, chock wheels, jack stands, etc )
Key on, engage 4x4 and try to turn the front drive shaft.
If it turns it is a problem with the transfer case.
If it doesn't it is a front axle engagement problem.

I am going to guess the drive shaft will not turn, and the problem is the shift disconnect motor on the front axle, or the shift solenoids.

You can check the shift solenoids with a vacuum gauge. The blue vacuum line is the 4WD operation, the pink is the 2WD operation. Pull the vacuum line at the shift disconnect motor, and install the vacuum gauge. Shift into 4WD and the vacuum should be on the line, and hold. If not could be the disconnect motor or the vacuum line to the motor.

Could also be the shift motor in the transfer case, but with the 4x4 light on the cluster lighting up, the transfer case should have shifted, the confirm comes from the transfer case to illuminate the 4x4 indicator on the cluster.
