I have a 1998 NWH10 Toyota Prius. My problem on Start up.

I have a 1998 NWH10 Toyota Prius. My problem with the car is when i first turn the car on, its runs normal for a few seconds, then all of a sudden the turtle mode light comes on indicating low battery and the car begins over revving the engine to what sounds like 4500-5000 rpm. When i check the battery meter on the multi function display unit on the dashboard, it shows the battery is full and in the green section and not dropping into the orange/low section. please help

I dont think the problem lies with the 12v battery, my car being a hybrid has the 12v battery to first start the electric motor which then starts the petrol motor, once the car has started the 288v hybrid battery takes over, the 12v is a standard car battery with positive/negative terminals, whereas my main 288v battery is nothing like ive seen before. 2nd is the car doesnt have an alternator, the electric motor recharges the battery's. One more problem i noticed the other night is when the car begins to over rev, the cooling fans of the main 288v battery seem to also over spin, as if the battery is overheating or something, its got me really confused

hi, i have a prius nwh10 1999 make, I too have the same problem, after starting 10 to 15 secs its ok then after the engine revs up too much and acceleration won't work. I took it to the hybrid specialist in perth australia, I was told that the hybrid battery pack has become too weak and it will get worse. I don't know what to do. any suggestions please

I had found a guide that let you rebuild Toyota Prius hybrid battery. This Guide would also be a good investment for the future. Hybrid batteries have a limited life span of 8 years or 150,000 miles on average. So if your car hasn't had a bad battery yet you can be expecting it soon as the 8 year mark is coming up on all 01'-03' Prius.

Have both your battery and alternator inspected. Turn it on, disconnect your negative battery cable, if it dies, you need an alternator, if not, then you may want to test your battery for bad cells.

Toyota Prius hazard lights blinking constantly

i have a 2010 Prius that we bought new. It has had no problems, but I can tell you from my study of the Prius that pretty much nothing is simple. The easiest way to reset stuff is to disconnect the a start battery connection. You can look on the net how to start a Prius with jumper cables to the engine compartment, and disconnect the start battery there. If you are not comfortable with that, the start battery is in the rear near the spare tire. Disconnect the negative cable only, wait 15 minutes and reconnect. You may have to reprogram your radio push buttons, but so what. If this doesn't work, take it to a shop (maybe toyota dealership) that can read and interpret the trouble codes for a 2010 Prius. Enjoy the car, we do.

I have 2008 toyota prius whent i start tha car after 10 to 20 seconds turn of

This could be related to the alternator not working as the electric system fails. How does the car run? If it is rough then it could be engine trouble, otherwise alternator or electrical drain.

When I start my 2010 prius it starts, but buy the time I take my food off the brake the start button turns red.

Sounds like your starting battery is going dead. You may want to either go onto Prius Chat's website and search for this: 1NZ-FXE Charging - for self install directions. Good luck!

Toyota Prius starting problem

There's a known problem with the early Toyota Prius (2001 - 2003), when running the engine for a long period of time without moving or when the car is driven only for short trips (short city driving), the Prius might not start.

You have to change the original battery with a 356 CCA which is bigger because the battery is bigger you also have to change what is holding it into place.
