is the starter turning at a proper spin? What I mean is does it sound normal like it used to. Or is it dragging just a little bit or alot? also how many times does it have to turn would you guess to start what I want here is how long do you crank it for it to start.

1999 FORD EXPEDITION intermittantly will not start.

You have a bad starter. A faulty starter will function when its cold but when it heats up, it takes more energy to get the starter to engage. Your problem is exhibiting the classic symptoms of a bad starter. I hope this solves your problem and the best of luck to you.

Remote starter

I had the same issue with my remote start on another vehicle, the part that bypasses the code on the key had to be reset. The way we figured it out was everything was normal except the vehicle did not start & the security light flashed rapidly.

ETC

You need to change the thermostat, it must be stuck open and the computer thinks the engine is always cold, hence the fast idle and smoke.
