This code comes up as a safety measure. It is telling you that either the gas pedal is hanging up, struck ect... or the butterfly in the throttle body is hanging up, not returning to center.

The abreviation means. Throttle posistion sensor.
There are a few codes that apply to this sensor but
po2176 means that the throttle body reciever plate,
(or blade) is positioned either below or above the parameters set by the by the powertrain control module. There are a couple of things you can try.
Check the connections at the throttle body and pcm.
Also check the linkage at the throttle body for any
obstructions or damage. Move the throttle by hand
back and forth and make sure it's not binding.
An obdII scanner can tell you the circuit that has the
problem. The scanners that repair shops and dealers
use, can isolate the problem within that circuit.
If the connections and linkage check out, you may
want to stop by your mechanic and have him/her
check it out. Hope this helps.
