This code comes up as a safety measure. It is telling you that either the gas pedal is hanging up, struck ect... or the butterfly in the throttle body is hanging up, not returning to center.
Please let me know aht you find.

The abreviation means. Throttle posistion sensor.
There are a few codes that apply to this sensor but
po2176 means that the throttle body reciever plate,
(or blade) is positioned either below or above the parameters set by the by the powertrain control module. There are a couple of things you can try.
Check the connections at the throttle body and pcm.
Also check the linkage at the throttle body for any
obstructions or damage. Move the throttle by hand
back and forth and make sure it's not binding.
An obdII scanner can tell you the circuit that has the
problem. The scanners that repair shops and dealers
use, can isolate the problem within that circuit.
If the connections and linkage check out, you may
want to stop by your mechanic and have him/her
check it out. Hope this helps.

Where is the throttle position sensor(tps) on 2004 gmc envoy xuv 4.2L

It is part of the throttle body. If you want to replace the throttle position sensors. You will have to replace the throttle body as a unit....Note: There should be two of them in your scan tool data screen.

I have a 2002 envoy 4.2 vortec it has a rough idle when i put it in drive but but it does not do it in park and its worse when it cold if i drive it for about a hour it smooths up do not have a code yet...

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

Looks like that you have a faulty TPS (throttle position sensor). If the TPS is faulty you'll have a rough idle when in drive even worse during cold start ups. It is located on the throttle body. Have it replaced and you'll be good.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

It is very rare for the PCM (computer) to fail on these vehicles. The vehicle needs to be scanned by professional scan tool that can monitor the various sensors, fuel pressure, etc. Live data should be recorded when the problem is occurring. Above all, parts should not be changed without proper diagnosis.

Trouble code po220a

P0220 fault code is an idication of a faulty TPS (Throttle Position Sensor). If you are experiencing low idle/stalling problems, the TPS would be the place to look. The TPS controls the idle speed on cold, warm, and when the AC is on.
