Wear on the inside of front tires

I was told that my truck did not have a toe allignment. is this true..

Yes there is toe adjustment but no easy caster adjustment. if a front end alignment mechanic said there wasn't ,,, I'd take it elsewhere. I just had my front end aligned on my 99 ram and they did adjust the toe.

Toe, I believe is tires pointed in or out like your toes. Caster, think about the casters on furniture that want to point straight in the direction of travel. Here is a good reference: http://www.aa1car.com/library/wheel_alignment.htm

What you are describing could be a toe in, toe out problem or it could be weak springs or overload condition.

If the guy/girl that told you there was no toe adjustment was a front end alignment mechanic, I would be inclined to believe them. If you have not spoken to a front end mechanic, you should.

Can you tell me what the Front suspension settings are ?


no vehicle make model. year supplied so the answer is generic but applies to most vehicles toe in is 1/8 -1/4 inch
caster 1 to 1 1/2 degrees and camber 1/2 2 degrees ( all measurements are positive
tire wear is the best guide to wrong alignment
wear on the inside or outside of the tire tread is alignment and toe -in
in the middle or on the outsides of the tread is pressure problems
wheel wobble at speeds ( 30mph up ) is castor adjustment, loose tie rod ends , ball joints and if the castor is approaching negative setting , will, not recenter the wheel after cornering
I suggest that you take the vehicle to an accredited suspension/ wheel alignment shop with experience on your make of vehicle and have it inspected
good shops will recommend that the rear is checked/ adjusted first as much front tire wear can be traced to the back being out

I replaced the tires on my 2003 mitsubishi eclipse 2 months ago & the front two have worn to the wires on both sides. a week ago there was still some tread on them. why could this be happening?


1. What brand and model of tire was fitted?

2. Please describe the wear pattern on the front tires in more detail. For example is the excessive tread wear.....
A. Right across the face of the tread on each tire or
B. On the outside edges of the tread on each tire or
C. on the inside edges of the tread on each tire or
D. on both sides of the tread but not on the center section of the tread on both tires.

B is normally caused by incorrect toe setting - toe in
C is also normally caused by incorrect toe setting - toe out
D is normally caused by tire pressure set way too low.

Faulty steering and suspension components can also cause abnormal tire wear for any component that affects the wheel alignment settings.

If you can provide a better description of the tire wear on each front tire you will get a better answer.

Can i adjust bent or toed out front wheel on 82 bronco?


The toe is adjusted by the tie rod ends connected to the gear box.
Some adjustment is possible where the tie rod ends connect.

Uneven cupping or wear on the inside of front tires.I believe its toe setting. you set the toe on 2006 trail blazer 4/4 (HOW) ?raje


Cupping and uneven wear are for two different reasons. Cupping is caused by either an unbalanced tire/rim or bad shock. Uneven wear can be an alignment issue. I don't know how to set the toe in.

Front tires wearing on inside very quickly on 1998 Mazda B2500


This may be due to the alignment being out of specification or possibly loose front end parts throwing your alignment out.

Nick, I did have a rod kit put in my 2008 Chev. Impala. The service guy just looked at it and said that was the problem. Wear on the inside of the tires.


When ever front end work is done, front end needs to be realign, the wear your getting is call toe wear, mean tire's are pointing out, and will wear tire's on inside edge, have it realign and that will take care of your tire wear problem.

who ever aligned the car isnt very good they should perform it again tell them if you wanted a toe and go you would have a kindergardner do it most alignment guys have a saying set the toe collect the dough i am a master tech and tire pressure should be set before alignment and all 4 wheels should be aligned together if it still pulls after that swap front tires side to side that usually works and ask for a printout of before and after measurements so you can see what was adjusted the vehicle will pull one way or the other when hard on the gas that is called torque steer and is normal but the acr should go straight while driving normally

Shimmy in front end at speeds of 50-60mph.


the tires,check if theyre worn out,make sure you check the inside edgea,if they're wearing unevenly,replace them and get an alignment from someone you trust,make sure the caster/camber and toe are in spec.-toe and camber are tire wearing angles-camber the most-if the inside or outside edges are worn more,or when you drive and let go of the steering wheel,it tilts to one side,camber problem,make sure tires are inflated correctly,about 32-36 psi,check ur gas flap for bmw recommended pressures-u should be safe with what i gave you-so yeah,check tire pressures and wear-if tires feathered,too much toe in or out-this should take care of your problem,good luck

1998 olds aurora wears out inside of front tires


Unless there is noise or play when cornering sharply at low speeds (parking), the CV joint / boot is still ok. The joint does need grease in there and the rubber boot fitted properly very soon.

As the suspension is set, the axle does little more than provide drive. It doesn't affect toe-in or camber angle.

Camber angle (vertical tilt inwards) is a product of the suspension design, and often cannot be altered.

Weak front springs can also throw this angle out, as the vehicle sits too low.

Toe-in (forward point angle) can and must be set accurately, or you will skid about in wet weather depending which tyre grips more.

What is most important to you, is the tyre design, tread width and outer radius. Also the tyre pressures MUST be mid limit when cold on the front - otherwise excess wear will result.

Having tyres with a large contact area that are too rigid on the front will increase wear to the insides.

Also, it is good practice to rotate the tyres to even-out wear. Usually front tyres move to rear axle, and rears swap sides to front axle. If wear is uneven, pop them off and turn around before refitting. Some tyres you cannot do this with.

If you choose a tyre with a harder tread compound, or ones with "C" at the end of the code, these will again last a lot longer.
