I have a 1988 f-350 diesel and i have lost my key and bought it without a spare how do i remove the ingnition with out a key

Without knowing the resistance of the pellet on the key the anti -theft system will not allow it to start .

When a key is inserted in the ignition, the contacts located in the ignition cylinder contact a resistor pellet located in the key. The instrument cluster (IPC) measures the resistance of the key pellet. The IPC then compares this value to a value stored in the IPC's memory. The IPC then performs one of the following functions: A new key shouldn't cost that much , a whole new ignition lock cylinder with a new key can be bought for $36.00 . on line .

You could disconnect the cable at the transaxle if you need to manually shift the trans, but you would need to disassemble the steering column to move the shift lever without unlocking the key cylinder.

for a start,the transponder KEY, HAS to be coded into the car to start it.the remote is a seperate item but works in conjunction with the key.buying a seperate system is a waste of money,as it CANNOT be used in conjunction with the fitted system.buy a remote and get it coded with the spare(s) into the car, by a dealer that can do the job.the alarm works this way....the remote has TWO codes one fixed the other rolling,every time you operate it the rolling code changes(stops others from "learning")the fixed code allows the key to be recognised when put into the ignition and start the car(if the remote battery goes flat you can still start the car with the key but the alarm may sound if the doors have been locked by the remote).without the remote/key the car is effectively dead.stops theives from stealing your car cos they need to replace the whole ingnition system to get it going.

Insert key and turn ignition to on position. Wait untill the "security" light goes out (about ten minutes). Turn key off. do not remove. repeat this step two more times. After third time remove key. You should now be able to start vehicle. To program the spare use the already programed key and turn it to the on possition (dont start) then off. remove key and insert spare and turn to the on position. Wait for "security light to go out then turn key off. Both keys should now be programmed.

MAYBE communicate at gm costumer service and tell the vin number(serial number right on the dash you can see it throught the windshield at the left corner maybe they have a service for that and they will tell you the code to have the new key from the key specialist.

Your car will no doubt have some sort of factory fited imobiliser so I think the answer to your question is NO!

You will have to contact a dealer and see if they can help or may be likely that the ingnition lock will have to be replaced and new keys spplied.

Take your VIN number to the dealer,you'll probably need ID and proof of ownership. They should be able to set you up with a key code to take to a locksmith and get a key made. Hope this helps.

Dis your keys have any type of chip enbedded in them? if so the dealer is the only option.
