This should only be indicating time for an oil change. Now, if the red, check engine light comes on, then you have an oil/engine problem.

Possibly the maintenance light wasn't reset when the last change was done. If you don't have the owners manual to check, I found a referenced method (below) to reset it through AMSOIL synthetic oil products. Good Luck

To reset Engine Oil light. Turn the ignition key to RUN with the engine off. Fully press and release the accelerator pedal three times within five seconds. If the Change Engine Oil light is flashing, the system is reset. The light will flash for up to 30 seconds or until the ignition is turned off. If the light comes on again and stays on for 30 seconds at the next ignition cycle, it did not reset. You will need to reset the system again.

Warning lightfor oil and chime sounding but oil level is fine what could it be?

Your engine is worn, likely from insufficient oil changes. This causes the oil pressure to drop at low RPM's and causes the warning light to come on.

Why does hot oil light come on on my 2009 Dodge Avenger

Always believe your indications unless you have good proof otherwise,Steve. Hot ENGINE oil can be caused by inferior lubrication,clogged filter,bad oil pump, BAD or too thin oil,too thick oil, clogged fins on an oil cooler or poor cooler circulation, LOW oil level, overheating coolant, KINKED cooler lines,etc.
I assume you're talking about oil and not trans oil? don-ohio (:^)

I have a 2011 ford escape with ~55k miles on it. The oil light came on but turns off when going up hills. The oil level is 1/4 up between the high and low dots. Could it be the fuel pump or oil level?

not fuel when last oil change --sludge -oil filter clogging or collapsing--bad oil sender/switch ---have oil pressure checked out and see about a flush at oil change

2005 Kia Sedona ex oil light comes on and off with slight ticking noise what could cause this?

  • Low oil level;
  • Oil broken down or contaminated;
  • Clogged oil filter;
  • Bad oil pump;
  • Clogged sump pickup in oil pan.
DO NOT START OR DRIVE THE CAR AGAIN UNTIL YOU HAVE REMEDIED THE PROBLEM. Running the car now will cause PERMANENT DAMAGE to your engine.

Why is my oil light coming on and goes off when I mash the gas

If your oil level is good,then it may be your oil sending unit,it is screwed into block by oil filter,the only way I know to check it is to change it out,easy to do.What ever you do,never use Fram oil filters.They clog up.

Oil light blinks on

If your oil level is good, that is between the low and high marks, that light blinking is an indicator there is a problem with your oil pressure. The light flashing could be low oil level, a bad oil pressure sensor, your oil pump going out or a clogged line or pick up. Start by checking your oil level, then test the sensor if both are good drain your oil and pull the oil pan off to see if the pick up is clogged, if it is clean it. If everything is good at this point then the problem is the pump itself and you'll need to replace the pump.

What causes the oil light to come on?

The oil light will come on orange if your oil level is low. The oil light will come on red if your oil pressure is low. The oil light will come on, then turn off if your oil level sensor needs replacing. Alex

The oil light stays on

Have you checked the enfine oil dipstick to ensure the oil is at the correct level ? The oil pressure light comes when ther is insufficient oil pressure in the engine. If oil level is OK it could mean several things. They could be a clogged oil filter or a faulty oil pressure switch or worst case a faulty oil pump.

The engine oil level is fine and the oil light is on.

This can be a few different things. I'll give you a couple. First, do you have an oil pressure gauge? If you do, watch it very closely. Specifically while accelerating, braking, and making turns... so, pretty much, all the time except when cruising. If you don't have one, you'll just have to watch the light. More than likely you are losing oil pressure and it has nothing to do with oil level. If it comes on more when the car is idling, but tends to go off when it's revved up, the oil pump may be going out or may be leaking. It could be that it's pickup line is getting clogged, but don't count on it. It could also be a clogged oil filter, but again, not likely. Change your oil AND filter first and foremost, even if you've done it recently. Then watch the light while the car is idling and while revving it SLIGHTLY. BE CAREFUL!!! If you're temperature gauge starts going up or your check engine light comes on, shut it OFF. Lack of oil pressure leads to blown engines. You don't want to spend 3-5K on a new one. Get the thing checked out. One more thing. When you get your oil changed, ask the mechanic to reset your car's oil change computer. Many newer cars will show an oil light when it's time to change the oil. If it's not reset, it won't know it was changed and will stay on. I hope this is your problem. Good luck with everything.
