P0171 and 174 System Too Lean
Basically this means that an oxygen sensor in banks 1 and 2 detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust).

These codes may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
•The MAF (Mass Air Flow) Sensor is dirty or faulty. Note: The use of "oiled" air filters may cause the MAF to become dirty if the filter is over-oiled. There is also an issue with some vehicles where the MAF sensors leak the silicone potting material used to protect the circuitry.
•There could be a vacuum leak downstream of the MAF sensor.

•In the vast majority of cases, simply cleaning the MAF sensor does the trick. Consult your service manual for it's location if you need help. I find it's best to take it off and spray it with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner. Make sure you are careful not to damage the MAF sensor, and make sure it's dry before reinstalling.
•Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses, replace if necessary
•Check for a dirty fuel filter and proper fuel pressure

P0358 Ignition Coil H Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
Code P0358 is for cylinder #8.

Inspect the spark plug, coil, and coil boot on that cylinder for signs of damage. Replace as needed.

If no problems are found with the components, check the wiring harness from the coil to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Potential Causes: Failed coil or boot
Failed spark plug
Harness problem

0171 system too lean bank 1. Thats where spark plug numbert 1 is. 0174 system to lean bank 2. Thats the opposite side{go figure} This actually means the system is running to rich. 0358 ignition coil H primary or secondary circuit failure. Is the truck miss firing? 4.6 or 5.4? Does it have seperate coils or two cil packs? Sounds like you need to tune it up. You may also have a bad coil. depending on what you have

I have a 97 ford exped 5.4 Triton v-8, replaced egr, PFE sensor, no vacuum leaks got rough idle, pluged both ends egr line, motor idles perfect, no missing/chk eng codes runs great. I am stumped?

On some early model Fords require programming of the electrical parts. If I'm not mistaken, There is an electrical connector that plugs into the EGR. You can call the local Ford dealership and ask about it but I'm pretty sure that's what needs to be done. Had an early model Ford Ranger come into the shop work in and found that out the hard way. I hope this helps you on getting correction for the problem at hand. Have a great wknd. Jesus loves you, John 3:16-17 (KJV)

Check engine code pooo3 on ford exp.5.4

Low voltage to the fuelpump regulator circuit. This is a rare and infrequent Code. One source suggests using a top of the line Scanner to see if other interpretations are generated.

How do i change back 2 spark plugs on 97 exp sport

Not exactly sure if what vehicle but guessing it's a 4.0 liter engine on like an Explorer. The best and as far as I have found is to remove the front left tire and either remove or just cut a slice in the inner fender. The ruber part that hangs down. Not talking about cutting a whole peice out, just a slice in it to where you can open it to get to those back 2 plugs. Hope this helps....

Loose steering wheel shaft on 97 EXP. when I hit a bump i get the death wobble I checked everything else and and so did pep boys, tire discounters and bob somerell Tires, all is good. Has anyone had this...

Hello, Sir is your 1997 Ford Expedition a 4X4? It sounds like the drag line and it's ball joints.
There is a bent heavy steel arm at the end of steering box. On the end of this pitman arm is the drag link and the drag link is hook to each front hub with a ball joint on each end and the pitman arm. This way when the steering wheel is turning both wheels in the front will follow each other.
If the ball joint are wore out on the drag link this will cause the front wheels to wobble.

Need to get the Ford Exp off the ground where the front wheels are free of a load. Now, just grab one of the front wheels and move it back and forth. There a good possiblity it rattle like marble in a car.
Also, check the upper and lower control arms that attached to each front hub. There are hugh ball joint in each control arm, upper and lower on each of the Ford Exp. Two per side four all together.
I hope this help you. GB...stewbison
