Most of the time you can wait until 100,000 miles to replace the timing belt. But there is no way to be sure, and maintenance recommendations vary. It is best to fall on the safe side. If you do not feel that you have the expertise to check the timing belt yourself, it is recommended that you have a professional take a look at it.
Volvo recommends for Volvo S80, changing the timing belt every 105,000 miles. Needless to say, they are pretty religious about this now. The B20, B21, B23, and B230 engines are non-interference engines, meaning that the camshaft can be rotated independently of the crankshaft and no damage will result to the engine. That is, if the timing belt breaks, the valves will not hit the pistons; the engine will simply stop. On the other hand, the B234 16-valve engines and any of the other Volvo multi valve engines are interference engines. Loss of the timing belt in these engines will result in severe or fatal engine damage. Your car might be fitted with: 2.8L (VIN 90, 6th & 7th digit, B6284T eng, turbo) 2.9L (VIN 94, 6th & 7th digit, B6294S eng) To get more information you can download the Owners manual at: http://new.volvocars.com/ownersdocs/2001/2001_s80/01s80_08b.htm
Mileage on timing belt, depends on year ? make (volvo) model (c70) and engine size?. heres a couple of mileage readings, the 1998 c70 with a 2.3 turbo engine is due every 70,000 miles. the 1999 -2001 c70 with 2.3 turbo is due every 105,000 miles. the 2002- 2004 c70 with the 2.3 engine is also at 105,000. the 1998 c70 with the 2.4 engine is due every 70,000 miles. the 1999-2001 c70 with the 2.4 engine is due every 105,000 miles. the 2002- 2004 c70 with the 2.4 engine is due every 105,000 miles. god luck hope this helps.
every 105,000 miles is recommended .. this looks like an interference engine so its really important not to let the belt break.. it will do lots of damage if it does ... usually the belt is changed along with the water pump tensioner and pullieys ... that because failure of any of those items can cause a sudden belt failure ... noise from the water pump area is a sign that it should be serviced sooner than later .. all those parts should come to 2 or 3 hundred bucks if you can supply the labor ... as your engine ages its a good idea to take off the timing cover and inspect the belt once in a while .. if anyone has changed the belt in the past then it should be written on top or on the front of the timing belt cover .. as a side, make sure you keep the PCV valve clean on that car .. that engine will last nearly forever with a little love and maintenance ..
For California models recommended at 105,000 miles.Belt needs to be inspected at 60,000 and 90,000, miles and replace at 105,000 miles. Except California replace at 60,000 miles. Note 1.8L engine is a interference engine, if timing belt goes bad will cause major internal engine damage.
