1998 GTI, 4cyl. First gear power loss at 3000 rpm. Second gear power loss at 2800 rpm. Third gear power loss at 1800 rpm. When I lift off the gas, rpm's drop and the engine regains power. Check engine light is on. This problem started when I relocated the battery to the trunk of the car. HELP PLEASE?

I finally found a fix. My car needed a throttle body alignment which would have cost a few hundred dollars at the VW dealership. So I searched online for alernatives and this is what I found. It worked for me:
Disconnect the negative terminal from the battery and wait about 15 minutes or so. Reconnect the terminal, insert key and turn to ACC and then you should start to hear the throttle body clicking as it tries to self align. Wait at least 3 minutes until you stop hearing the engine clicking and there is NO noise coming from the compartment. Turn the key to off, then start her up.
Crazy, but so far so good!!! Hope it works for you.

The same problem just happened to me too. i just replaced my starter, and when i started my car up, it ran really rough for a while but when it started running smoother, I took it for a ride and the engine started cutting out at the same rpm's as you. have you figured anything out yet? its really killing me. i have no idea what it could be..

Hi, my car starts vibrating at 2800 RPM and vibrations dissapears at 3000 RPM.

does it have the same acceleration at that speed, if it does not accelerate so well it is called a flat spot and will almost certainly need a good mechanic to sort it out
If acceleration remains as good in this range as through the rest of the rev ange add detail and please resubmit

1998 lexus gs300 runs at 2800 rpm at 65 mph

At a steady 65 mph, the torque converter clutch (TCC) is engaged. When you accelerate, the ECU disengages the TCC to gain extra torque for acceleration and then re-engages TCC when speed is steady. Its kind of like having an extra gear.

I have 1998 passat when i do 100km the rpm goes above 3000 it feels like needs a gear pls let me know what might be the problem

I am assuming that this is an automatic transmission and it would indicate that that the transmission is not shifting into high gear. The normal rpm range at 100km should be 1800 -2200 rpm's. A visit to the transmission shop would be my recommendation.

When driving in 5th gear should the RPMs run at 3000 RMPS. Mine is a 4 cly 5 speed

You don't provide much information to go on (type of vehicle, type of engine, 2wd or 4wd, etc.) RPM is always going to be based on the speed you're traveling with a standard transmission. My 4 cyl 5 speed Nissan pickup in 5th gear runs at 3000 RPM at about 75mph.
