Power steering on my 1998 gmc sle 1500 when going around a corner it acts like there is nothing connected for a second or two then the pressure from the pump can be felt again then it goes out again,mostly on right hand turns but not always scary to drive if not use to it any help would be great all fluids are up

Might be your power distribution center under the hood. I have ran into issues where bad connections caused excessive heat around the fuse and relay contacts and actually melted spots in the box. Remove the back cover and look for melted or discolored spots.

Unless you have a power steering assisted brake booster more common with a diesel, you may have a new pump issue like the flow control valve in the pump or air in the system yet, check for air bubbles or a milky looking fluid and the correct fluid. Try in a parking lot out of the way of traffic to put in neutral while moving,rev the motor slightly and brake as you would when the PS assist stops,by revving the motor just off idle this will increase the PS pressure it should act normal if it's a flow control issue and if the pump is capable of producing the correct pressure.

Trnasmission going out, Did you know that reverse is the same as second gear. Does it slip in second gear are should I say have a hard upshift like around 20mph. Got a friend have them drive it in reverse and see how fast the drive shaft is turning also do you hear a whinning noise.

if you are getting 12 volts at the pump then it could be a ground fault, hot wire the pump if it doesn't run it may be faulty

Therr has to be air in the lines or the pump is about to go. There is a product that I would recomend, but is usually only at a dealer part shop. It is a BG product for power sterring pumps. Costly but well worth it maybe $20 a bottle. I recomend it so much becouse not only will this fix your issue, but you probably will never have to replace that pump this is some good stuff. I would not recomend unless I had tried it myself on a pump that was going out when I first purchased the vehicle aprox 75,000 miles ago. The pump is great has not even wined sence I used the product.

I'm not sure if that truck has rack and pinion steering, or a steering sector. In either case, it sounds like you have stuck valve and the hydraulic pressure is fighting you, instead of helping you. When ever you turn the steering wheel the valve is supposed to move and direct the hydraulic oil pressure to help you steer. The valve is built into the sector or the rack and pinion, you may have to replace the assembly. There are companies that recondition those items so you might want to shop around.

Theres only one fuel pump relay, unless you have dual tanks. Be sure you have 55-60 psi fuel pressure. I "think" the oil pressure switch supplies power to the fuel pump after the engine is running.
