Why is alarm red light on radio - i removed add on alarm years ago? battery drain and i dont know why 1997 accord

If the alarm red light on your radio is on even though you removed the add-on alarm years ago, it is possible that the alarm system is still active and causing a drain on your battery. Here are a few things you can try to fix the issue:
  1. Check the wiring: Make sure that all of the wiring related to the alarm system has been properly disconnected. It's possible that some wiring may have been missed when the alarm was removed, which could be causing the issue.
  2. Check the fuse: The alarm system may have a dedicated fuse that is still active and causing a drain on the battery. Check the fuse panel for any fuses related to the alarm system and remove them if necessary.
  3. Disconnect the battery: If you're unable to locate the cause of the issue, you may need to disconnect the battery to stop the drain. Be sure to follow proper safety procedures when disconnecting the battery.
If these steps do not fix the issue, it is possible that there is a problem with the alarm system itself or with another component of the car. In this case, it is recommended to have a mechanic or dealership technician diagnose and repair the issue.

My 2000 s-type jaguar has a electrical drain problem. I think it might be the alarm system. I have to jump start the car after it sits for 6 hours. The battery and charging system is good.

disengage the alarm system by disconnecting the hot wire to it ..then see if this still happens. if it is, and my theory is it is the alternator....start the car , and disconnect the battery..if it stalls it is the alternator.

Find where the alarm is hooked into the electrical system Usually where the wires come out of the steering column from the ignition switch. They cut the main feed wire and hook up the alarm. Disconnect the alarm wires and re connect the oem wires. They will look alike

My 2000 ford expedition has a shortage that keeps draining my battery

Disconnect the negative battery cable. Put an ammeter between the negative battery terminal and the disconnected cable. Remove fuses one at a time and look for a large drop in current. The fuse with the big drop is on the circuit with the short.

Note that even with the ignition off the radio, the alarm, and the remote entry will pull a few milliamps each. The control module might also draw some power.

After locating the circuit with the problem you need to check wiring and components for shorts.

A service manual (Haynes, Chilton, etc.) with a wiring diagram is helpful. Check your local auto parts store for manuals.

Alarm wont shut off after replacing battery

How long did it take you to replace the battery? If you did a quick switch, try disconnecting it again and leave for 10-15 minutes. Maybe it will reset? Did you replace the battery before it went completely bad? Is this a stock alarm?
