Need spark plug wiring diagram for 1965 ford

I need spark plug wiring diagram for 1965 ford mustang 289. The distributor is brand new, carburator is new, plugs are new and still won't fire to start. I think the wires may not be on the proper spots.

Try this. If the distributor is in the right way, the clips that hold the cap on should be just a hair off of 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock. #1 is positioned at 1 o'clock, which is at the firewall side of the distributor. The firing order is 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8and is counterclockwise from #1. The passenger's side is cylinders 1-2-3-4, from the front of the car. The driver's side is 5-6-7-8 from the front. Hope this will help.

1965 mustang starter fires but won't engage flywheel. it is a brand new starter

Doesn't matter. The forks inside the starter may be missing or broke off or bad spring in starter that pushes the gear out. Try new started. Starter may have to be shimmed to make contact with flywheel. Starter may be kicking out but not engaging flywheel.

if automatic, look for vacuum hose damage/leaks or loose wires that may have come off during the work you did. Is the distributor a vacuum advance and are timing/ points set correctly?

Trying to get timing set i can get top dead center but not sue where sparks plug wire go i know the firing order nothing seems to work htis is on a 1963 ford falcon 170 cid

Here is the firing order diagram for that engine, and the ignition points should have a gap of .025 in. or a 35 degrees dwell angle, and the spark plug gap is .034 in., and the ignition timing should be set at 6 degrees before TDC with a standard transmission, and 12 degrees before TDC with an automatic transmission. If the distributor was removed then it will have to be installed correctly, and let me know if you require any further assistance.

65 mustang, shaking when idling and bogging down when first trying to pick up speed. This is after mechanic put in new thermostat, spark plugs, and worked on the timing, saying the timing was off. It...

It sounds like he has the spark plug wires in the wrong firing order. Those are the "hoses" you see on the distributor cap. He changed the rotor $7 part. The timing won't make it shake. It can be off 10 degrees from specification an still run ok. Is it a 6 cylinder or V8?

I'm pretty sure he has 2 spark plug wires out of order. He needs to look up firing order of engine.
When he transferred wires from the distributor cap or put them back on after the plug change, he must have put 2 in different places.

Only other possibility is he cracked a spark plug installing them, it happens.

What does it mean when someone says that a 65 ford mustang needs timed and tuned and how do you do that. It has the 289 engine in it.

It means you need to replace some parts. When doing a tune up you should replace the spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, gas filter, air filter, change the oil and filter if it hasn't been done recently, and the plug wires if they haven't been done. The oil should be changed every 5,000 to 7,500 miles.
You need a spark plug socket to change the plugs and a timing light to set the time along with a few general wrench's and screw driver's.
If you are going to try this yourself then you should get a service manual for the car, Chilton's or Haynes have good ones that will contain the information you need to do it. MAKE SURE that you only disconnect one spark plug and wire at a time and replace them before you move on to the next one. Otherwise it might be wise to take it to a garage and have them do it for you. It shouldn't be overly expensive, a mechanic should be able to do it in a couple hours at most, unless he ran into difficulties. Tune ups need to be done on a regular basis depending on mileageand an owner's manual would be a bonus here. It would contain the intervals you need. Hope this helps.

HOW TO replace the spark plug wiring

take one boot from the distributor cap( and follow the same wire to the spark plug) off. find the replacement wire that is the closest in length to the one you just took off. Make sure you follow the same pattern the wire was ran when re-installing the new one. do this - ONE AT A TIME - with the remaining wires.
