Bank 1 is pass/side exhaustpipe/converter bank 2 is on the driverside,this car has two converters, so you have 4 oxygen sensors, one before and one after the converter on each side, so bank 1 sensor1 is pass/side before the converter, bank 1 sensor 2 is pass/side after the converter, then bank 2 sensor1 is driverside before the converter, before means starting at motor, then bank 2 sensor 2 is driverside after the converter, heres a diagram to help, i hope this is helpful.Not passing smog check - a9203dd.jpg33c9cf6.jpg

There are 4 oxygen sensors. bank one is the right (passenger side) bank 2 is the drivers side. The front sensors are sensor 1 and the rears are sensor 2. So if it needs bank 1 sensor 2 that would be the right sensor, behind the cat converter. Bank 1 sensor 1 is in front of the converter. Be sure thats what you need from the smog shop, do not take advice from a auto parts store IE Ottozoo, they tell everbody they need oxygen sensors.

My 2003 kia sedona won't pass emissions the codes are p0320 p0431. Help please

code p 0320 refers to crankshaft position(CKP) sensor /engine speed ( RPM) sensor ---circuit malfunction===causes --wiring---CKP/RPM sensor---ECM
code p 04310 refers to warm up catalytic converter, bank 2--efficiency below threshold===causes ---cat converter---wiring---HO2S 2
As it is not passing the smog test I would be replacing the HO2S sensor ( manifold or before the cat on bank 2 of the engine ) or more likely a failed cat converter
you may have had the P 0320 code for a long time and have not noticed a drop in performance but as cat converters have a lot to do with smog control , that is the area I would advise checking first

Hi, I need to take my 2001 Mazda 626 4cyln for SMOG check in CA. But its check engine light is on, diagnosed as code P0421. Appreciate your help to fix this problem, or just to pass the check. Thank you.

CODE P0421. DEFINITION-CATALYST EFFICIENCY LOW-BANK 1. EXPLANATION-THE OXYGEN SENSORS MONITOR THE CATALYTIC CONVERTERS ABILITY TO STORE OXYGEN. PROBLEM CAUSES- 1. CATALYTIC CONVERTER DEFECTIVE (FAILURE POSSIBLY DUE TO #2,3, OR 4) 2. ENGINE MISFIRE OR RUNNING CONDITION. 3. LARGE VACCUM LEAK 4. ENGINE OIL LEAKAGE INTO EXHAUST-VALVE GUIDE SEALS, PISTON RINGS. THE PCM HAS DETERMINED THAT THE WARM UP CATALYST EFFICIENCY FOR BANK 1 IS BELOW TRESHOLD FOR THE CURRENT ENGINE OPERATING CONDITION. (BANK 1 IDENTIFIES THE LOCATION OF CYLINDER #1, WHILE BANK 2 IDENTIFIES THE CYLINDERS ON THE OPPOSITE BANK).

replace O2 sensors, or your Catalytic Converter.

Where is the O2 Sensor located on 2003 Ford Focus? Check Engine Light is on and trouble shooter device says the problem is in the O2 Sensor Heater Circuit, but where is it located.

The code will tell you which O2 sensor it is.
The code will point to either bank 1 sensor 1; bank 1 sensor 2; bank 2 sensor 1; bank 2 sensor 2.

From what I remember with a focus, it should only have 2 sensors, sensor 1 will be located before the cat, and sensor 2 will be located after the cat.
