2002 VW Polo - EPC Light and Loss of Power

2002 VW Polo - Experiencing continually issues with the EPC light. VW garage explained it was wiring fault with the pedal and paid for repair with no resolution to issue. Secondly we took to a local mechanic and they replaced the map sensor. The vehicle weekly looses power and the epc comes on? It has become extremely unreliable car. Any advice would be appreciated greatly.

Hi,
It is a wiring fault, but they are looking on the wrong end. You will need to have a VW dealer "repin" the electrical connector at the throttle body. What this means is, the dealer will take apart the connector, cut off the old pins and crimp on new ones and reassemble the connector. This is a common problem on drive by wire VW's. The dealer has a bulletin on the problem and I don't know why they missed it. They will probably have to order the connector kit however. Good luck!

I have a polo vivo 1.4 2010, it misfires very bad and it losses power with EPC light on. In VW they said the computer doesn't show any fault. What could be the problem?

Computers dont show everything. A data stream using a factory scanner wil pinpoint. Go to private shop that has xperienc using it. Car may just need new plug wires and coil..bad burning effects pollution control. Or injection system is off . A tuneup in other areas can help

2002 1.6L GOLF, EPC LIGHT ON, POWER LOSS An EPC light will appear on the dash randomly whilst driving at a casual pace. Once it is on there is a noticeable loss in power and it stays this way until the...

It sounds as if your vehicle may have severe water damage to the engine. The engine sensors on the golf are suseptable to water damage and can result in epc light that you are seeing on your dash, or so i was told by VW. I replaced all the sensors, alternator and the computer on my original engine, but this action didnt fix the problem. So i bit the bullet and replaced the engine, and haven't had a problem since. If you do the labor yourself it can be done as cheap as $4000. I hope this helps mate.

good luck

Epc light on

EPC means Electronic Power Control.

When this light comes on, yopu could have such a sudden power loss.

However, before visiting a workshop for help, do the following basic checks:

No air leak into the intake system.

Ensure that all the electrical socket in the engine management system are well fitted, no loose contacts.

This light can be caused throttle valve malfunction, MAF, brake lights, EVAP , 02 sensor, secondary air pump.

I suggest you visit a competent dealer or independent shop for help. They will scan the EPC and run 'Throttle Body Adaption'. and diagnos the problem. Ask for a garage with a 'Ross Tech VAG-COM' or a ' VW diagnostics scanner.'

I have a vw polo and the EPC warning light has come on what should i do?

Check your brake lights.if the bulbs blow this can induce a brake light switch fault, also the switch itself is a very common problem.this will put your EPC light on

Epc light comes on some times with loss of power

The best way to determine the problem is to get the trouble codes read.
The most common issues are the brake switch (actually on your brake pedal) and the MAF (Mass Airflow Sensor). Since you're experiencing a loss of power I would definitely go with the MAF.
If you were having trouble shifting out of park (if you have an auto) I would say brake switch (this switch has been recalled by vw 2x).

Getting the fault codes read would definitely narrow it down, but I'm betting on the MAF.

VW POLO-52 plate EPC light on dash

My Polo had a similar problem and the brake light switch at the brake pedal was replaced. Then the computer was reset and the EPC light issue was resolved. It has something to do with the engine management, when sensing the light switsh being activated, retarding the power of the engine.
