The Internet, though, has a large number of web sites where
you can buy service manuals and schematics from bookstores,
publishers, and other collectors. Here is just a sampling of
what sites are out there:
The "Drive" you speak of is Overdrive.Youve lost connection to it.Possibly the brake pedal switch under dash has burned out and not putting power to the trans for overdrive. When you touch the brake pedal, overdrive goes off. When released, overdrive can come back on when at spped to do so.This switch could possibly just have come unplugged also.Check this first and plug it back in and drive it.
Boy O Boy, Don't throw that old trans away, It is most likely OK. Did you change the filter and fluid. A bad speed sensor or a bad torque converter lock-up solenoid will result in a loss of overdrive function. Perform an OBDII scan of the stored faults And look for Speed sensor and lock-up solenoid faults. Watch out for those shops, they will skin you.
My 94 wouldn't hold it's gears and would drop down and over rev. My problem was the oil. It should be Dexron 2 and some body had put the wrong oil in. It was drained refilled run for a while and drained again, then used for about 2 weeks. Drained it again etc and it's been fine ever since.
Hope this works for you, good luck.
