My Tach on the 2005 Monte Carlo either reads low rpm or it reads clear off the charts. At Idle it will show 0 and at 55 mph it shows about 1500 rpm. Today it is showing clear off the gauge like it has gone clear around.

Well the only real fix for that is to replace IPC. The new one should come programmed and ready to go

2002 Pontiac Montana trans problem

no I don't think so , it is only the torque converter clutch engaging and disengaging due to engine load. if you want to test this. go on steady speed over 50 mph no gas pedal movement. touch lightly the brake pedal but not braking and release . during this see the rpm drop down and raise

hope it helps

I have 96 monte carlo 3.1. Car feels like it is running great at

Coils usually breakdown under load(accelleration). A sticky valve of lifter is easy to check with a vacuum guage hooked up to the manifold. It will show a steady needle at idle if ok but the needle will bounce if the valve sticks. Does not sound like a coil.

Gas gauge and tach do not read proper readings! What will cause this? The gas guage will peg past full when there is only quarter tank and tach reads 4500 RPM at idle

The gas tank sounds like a bad ground usually located under the car at the gas tank. I do not know but maybe they both tach and fuel gague get their ground from the same place.

Wont keep idle, car stalls out

I had this same problem on my 2005 monte carlo, took mechanic a while to figure out it was the idle air control valve. They also replace the idle air control motor.

Check for vacuum leaks at the intake. Check the vacuum hose from the air intake tube to the valve cover.
