I have a 2003 Dodge Stratus with over 125,000 miles that sometimes doesn't catch when changing gears in the morning (usually on cold days). I'll back out of my drive way and when I put it into drive it just sits idle. At that point I try to change gears (automatic) and nothing catches (reverse, drive, etc.). However, about a minute later the transmission catches and the car is fine for the rest of the day.
Is the transmission going bad or do I just need to have the transmission flushed?
Just check the transmission oil levels first, if they are low this will stop it from engaging into gear.
Testimonial: "It seems that I was low on transmission fluid. After adding a quart everything seems to be back to normal. Thanks."
My car was doing the same thing, talk to a mechanic at the dodge dealer, he told me that it was a part in the transmission that need to be changed from metal to platic or vice verse. He said dodge found this out after the fact.
