What could be the cause of the taillights on a '04 Nissan Maxima not working? Mechanic said the light switch and bulbs were good but he couldn't find the problem.
Test the voltage at each light circuit. It sounds like you have a ground fault. This can be very hard to find. If you do not have voltage in the light sockets check all fuses. Some circuits are mixed among 2 or more fuses. If all fuses are good and you can't get voltage in the bulb sockets you most likely have a ground fault problem.

Thanks for your interest. I found another posting that mentioned a fuse panel under a large plastic cover by the windshield washing liquid. This is where I found the fuse for the tail lights and the fuse was blown.
this can be caused by the multifunction switch
