My 2004 dodge neon has failed emissions test repeatedly b/c of the readiness moniters. they just tell me to keep driving it, its been months. how can i fix the readiness??

Your motor might be combusting engine oil. you may try to hire a mechanic to replace the valve seals to prevent the oil from combustion. if it doesnt work, try replacing the piston rings, its gonna be a big help

Soumds like the computer went crazy, ive run into this with dodge/crysler. what you do is remove the battery cable (neg side) for 5 mins, then reconnect and drive car for 50 miles with a complete cool down, meaning drive 25 miles park overnite then drive another 25 miles then have the retest done it should pass, hope this helps.

You must perform an OBD2 drive cycle to make ready for testing.
Toyota Drive Cycle for Setting Smog Check Readiness Monitors
  • Fuel tank at 1/2.
  • Engine cold start idle for 10 minutes.
  • Drive at highway speed 55-60 mph with steady throttle for 16 minutes.
  • Return to idle for three minutes with engine running in park.
  • Drive again at medium speed 40 mph for eight minutes.
  • Return to idle for three minutes.
  • Repeat next day.

My 2001 dodge intrepid failed emissions says due o excessive of readiness monitors 'Not Ready'

Hi , I just bought a 2004 Xterra w no plates. I cant register it without an emissions test.One garage did the test and it failed.
you probably can find a tech to do this for you but keep in mind that you will be paying for however long it takes for all the drive cycles to run.

Failed emissions test
Depends on the engine year. On modern, computer controlled cars, a bad egr valve will turn on the 'check engine' light and cause you to fail an emissions test. On older, cars, 70's and early 80's, it doesn't have much effect, but it is easy and cheap to replace it. On newer cars, it is essential, hard to find and a PITA to replace.

2004 dodge stratus 2.4L not passing emissions test why Emission saying Catalyst Not Ready Oxygen Sensor Not Ready I put 375 highway miles on the car, hopping this will pass it.

could be a non operating oxygen sensor heating, check connector and damaged wiring, as it is posible to damage wiring or connector at this very hot plecement. Amclaussen.

Failed smog check,no codes car runs fine. where do I start 98 neon dohc. if there was a problem with emissions would there be any codes? Idid find a bad coolant temp sensor. It would read that it was hot,...
replace the coolant sensor. go to a parts store and ask for emissions2_bing.gif test formula. its about $8 a bottle. this should help it pass the emissions test.

Emissions test comes up not ready - can't pass inspection
Under the hood, there is a fuse block. I believe it is on the driver's side of your vehicle. Open that box, and pull the "ECU" fuse. Leave the fuse out for at least 5 minutes. Put the fuse back in, start the car, and let it idle for at least another 5 minutes. Do not drive the car, touch the gas, or even look at the gas pedal for these 5 minutes, as the ECU is remapping itself. This will properly reset the ecu and clear the codes. After this you may drive the car.

Need to do a drive cycle?????
a drive cycle is very complicated and is outlined in the factory emission manual, but here is the short version, u need to do about 20 miles of mixed driving, freeway steady speed, then stop and go and steady low speed, repeated idle times and stop and go, so just drive it in town and on the freeway for a few days and I am sure it will clear the drive cycle test and be ready to pass emission test.

ENGINE LIGHT GOES OFF AND ON
That light is telling you the emission system has a problem, there will be a code stored for the problem in the computer, go to any Kragen or other chain parts store like Kragen and they will run a test to get the code(s), post those back hear on this thread and I will help figure what the problem is.
