How do i hook up my battery wires in my 1992 chevy pickup

how was it hooked up before you started working on it. the black wire is the negative cable and that is the body ground and most bolt it to the engine or a bracket and there is a short wire sometimes and that will goto the body near the battery. now that is done. the positive red wire goes to the starter and or a block that has a wire going to the starter. the block is more like a metal strip with a bunch of bolts sticking out and the wires should be all red. that is mounted to the firewall and is plastic so it does not ground to the body.the short wire from the positive red cable is not always used. so if it was not hooked to anything leave it alone.

Which wires go where on a 2003 3.4 liter Chevy

There are three posts on the starter solenoid. Two large ones, and one small one. One of the large ones has a braided wire going into the starter. leave this one alone. On the other large ones, you will connect the positive battery cable as well as the large red wire coming from the alternator. The small purple wire connects to the small post on the solenoid. Lastly, on the engine block pointing the opposite way (towards the drivers side) is another stud and you will connect the negative battery cable to it.
Make sure that none of the wires can touch the other posts coming out of the solenoid.

Was welding on the frame and now my truck won't start, lights won't come on, windows won't go up or down. Replaced the computer but that did not fix it. It's a 93 GMC 3500 one ton dually 454 2 wheel drive.

I'm guessing you were doing arc welding as opposed to gas welding, right? Battery should be disconnected any time you're arc welding. Check the fusible link located somewhere along the positive battery cable (the positive cable may run to a battery junction box with up to five fusible link cables coming out of it). Check voltage from battery positive cable (cable connected) or continuity (cable disconnected) to downstream point beyond fusible link. Fusible links cannot be repaired - they must be replaced. Good luck.

1994 vw passat. brand new battery and alternator. will not hold charge can boost and go.. but once i shut it off it will not start again.. sometimes there is juice and it trys to start other times it has...

Replace the worn battery cables and clean the battery and the posts with a wire brush. Baking soda and water.
Pay particular attention to the negative - battery cable, clean the surface under the terminal at the battery and the other end of the cable, tale it off and use wire brush and sandpaper to clean the other end of cable.

Careful, with residue from battery and cable, will eat you clothes.
One of the wires from the pos+ terminal is to the ignition and the other one is to the coil.

Good luck, Robert

Ok 1994 vw passat... battery wont hold its charge.. new battery new alternator.. battery cables look old and worn.. when I turn the key sometimes there is nothing just the fourways trun on.. I then unhook...

the wires on the positive post are the large cable goes to the starter, one of the smaller wires goes to the charging circuit and the other goes to the fuse/relay power center, now how to check for a draw on your battery, first you need to remove the battery and have it charged you can take it to auto zone and they will charge it for free. after you have the battery charged hook up the negative battery cable but do not hook up the positive cable, make sure every thing is turned off and all doors and trunk are closed, then take a 12volt test light and hook it between the positive battery post and the positive battery cable if the test light lights up you have a draw, if it lights start pulling fuses one at a time till the light goes out. when you find the fuse that turns the light out you found the circuit that is drawing on the battery. now i cant tell you what in that circuit is drawing you will have to come back on and tell us what fuse it is and we can look up what all is on that circuit, if the light stays on after all fuses have been tested unhook the alternator if the light goes out you got a bad alternator......GOOD LUCK

Battery terminal does this come from starter to battery or the the black box next to battery?

the positive battery cable goes to the starter and the black box.there are some other wires involved with the pos cable. if your trying to replace it with a generic cable you cause more problems down the road than its worth.get a factory one at the dealer it will be easier to install and wont create problems
