hi.... you may have disturbed the wiring that goes to the abs sensor
on the back of your brake plate. there is one on each wheel. and the cable goes from the sensor into your boot to a connector you may have disturbed this. its behind the panels on the wheel arch. good luck.

probly computer issues--unplug it and clean the pins w electric solvent and see if system clears--old alternator etc can cause symtoms tu-git it testd--------may need to du a scan w vehicle specific gear not a cheap code reader---------cud hav a brake module thats failn--dirty fluid will cause it--there not cheap---------mite need computer to be reflashd--------go to a private mech that has done this stuf---dealers dont hav xpertise or old gear to scan

I suspect that the brake booster is becoming defective and the small application to the pedal causes excessive booster reaction
the abs section only maintains applied brake fluid pressure as set by the position of the pedal
that is to maintain the pressure as the stopping and start movement of a skidding wheel opens and closes a valve to that wheel /s
if you are on ice that sudden hard braking will cause the wheels to lock and immediately the abs cuts in to allow the wheels to turn and then to allow brake action to be reapplied
if the abs is working under brakes you will get a pulsating feeling under your foot as the fluid pressure is alternation between full on and released by the abs valves

There are many things that can cause your ABS light to come on. Some are serious, so you should never just ignore the light.
But there are times when the light comes on and can be met with a simple solution.
For instance, a dirty ABS wheel sensor can cause the system to trigger the ABS light during self evaluation.
You'll be shocked when you see how much road gunk can accumulate on this very important sensor.
Even if your ABS light hasn't made an appearance, it's a good idea to clean the sensor.
A good time to do it would be during brake pad replacement when you have the wheels off anyway.

you have snow around the rings on the drive shafts so its not reading on teh sensors or you have ripped the wires out ,its safe enough to drive but teh ABS wont work ,but did the older cars you drive have ABS??

Check all brake light bulbs as this indicates an open bulb .Also check brake fluid level as low fluid can trip an indicator light as well

depending on the system if it is 2 channel or 4 channel one of the sensors that are located on the backing plate located behind calipers is eithier faulty or dirty you can try brake cleaner these sensors use a small magnet pickup device to sense when the wheel "locks up"
