Question about 1990 Honda Accord

1 Answer

90 honda accord wont start

My friend was driving his 90 honda accord when the car shut off and died for no apparent reason. now the car wont start at all. when the key is in the ignition even on the on position the lights do not come on or anything. and the key wont turn to even try to crank the engine. the hazard lights even went off for awhile and the fuse box under the steering wheel was making a weird nose but then it started working again. i tried to manually start it by touching the battery to the starter and the engine would try to crank but wouldnt turn over.

the battery is new and the fuses were working. i think its a wiring problem but i cant figure it out. any ideas?

Could the throttle position sensor cause a 91 accord to shut down

A faulty throttle position sensor can cause all kinds of drivability problems on all kinds of different vehicles. However, if I was driving a 1991 Honda Accord and the engine suddenly shut down like somebody turned the key off, the first thig I would do is check for spark at the spark plugs. If there was no spark, I would replace the distributor, since this is what causes this about 90% of the time on those vehicles.

1995 honda accord will shut off while driving for no reason as if the key was shut off. Let vehicle sit for a minute and it starts up

I chased this same problem on my 99 Accord for almost a year and a half replacing just about everything from the Alternator to the fuel pump. It turned out the be the main relay for the car. The part was in the ballpark of $25.00. Mine was located on the passengers side floor board panel just in front of the door. Hope this sends you in the right direction.

98 accord dies while driving for no apparent reason

It could be a number of things. These include: faulty coil wire, bad alternator, bad torque converter, bad computer, the ignition relay is giving out, a dirty and stuck idle control valve. It should be one of these problems. How to tell which one it is is to follow a systematic approach and test each indiviaul item/circuit.

91 Accord Car will initially start then when driving it will die sometimes starts right away sometimes 10 or 20 minutes later but has gotten more frequent about dying and taking longer to start

I have a 1991 honda accord dx that had the same problem. while driving it would just completely shut down. after about 5 minutes it start and run for a while then shut down again getting more frequently. There was a recall on the ignition control module (ignitor) which is in the distributor. call your local honda dealer with your vin # and will tell you if yours was replaced. If not I bought one from parts store for $60 or you could take a chance and buy one from a junk yard. I bought the whole distributor for $20 as a back up.
