If the thermostat wasn't seated properly in the housing, or the gasket got damaged or displaced it will cause a leak. Check at the site where the thermostat fits. Make sure the thermostat and gasket are seated correctly and the housing is bolted down properly. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the housing or it could crack.
You did not say you fixed why it ran hot in the first place.
For example, if the head gasket went, then replacing the thermostat is not going to help anything.
But you also did not say where the coolant is being ejected from?
For example, if you put the thermostat in upside down, it will never open and the radiator will always boil over.
You need to tell us a whole lot more.
