Did you burp the air out of the system after changing those parts? It sounds like the thermostat isn't opening which is why the lower hose is still cold. Click my screenname, go to my tips and tricks, and choose the one about burping the cooling system - it may help you out.

Well just remember the lo wer hose should be colder but if the temp outside is cold then it is reasonable to expect the rad to run colder

failing that i would re change the thermostat just incase the one you put in was defective and stuck wide open or opening at wrong temp
it does hapen from time to time
if outside air temp is below -20 then it is likely the das is cooling the fluid too fast but it temp and rpm then it's likely the thermostat

    pop off the top rad hose fill the rad up have a friend start the truck and keep the rad hose high just 10 - 20 secs should do

    fill the top rad hose with coolant prime the block

    then re conect it

    re start the truck leave rad cap off

    you should see the soolant moving

    if you dont see the fluid moving then apply tht rad cap just press it on dont turn it this will presure the system then remove it and refill rad it should drop and you will need to repeat the proces a couple of times

    once you can press and remove the cap and fluid doesnt drop fill rad to top and close it up you have now burped the system and it should work properly

    good luck and have fun if this fails take it over to the local shop or go to the loan a tool place like auto pro or a rentall place get a radiator compression tester do a compression test and see if thet helps with the problem burping the system

The t-stat may be the wrong setting. check the box and you may have to get a different one with a higher temp rating.

98 grand cherokee little heat.heater hoses hot top rad warm bottom is cold collant barely luke warm

While it doesn't seem likely, if you've changed, or had the thermostat changed.... I'd say you got a faulty thermostat. I am curious as to what your temperature gauge says the temperature of the engine and coolant is.. If your gauge is showing hot, I can think of two more possibilities... the water pump isn't pumping right... and, if the water pump isn't working right, the problem can be a cracked head or block, which can cause an airlock in the coolant system. Check the coolant or radiator cap.

2001 Ford Taurus running hot

First thing to check when the engine is cold is that if there is enough antifreeze in the radiator and after you run the engine for about 5/10 minuter check both the rad hoses to see if they are both at the same temperature, if the return hose which is the bottom one is cold then replace the thermostat. If both hoses are hot or same temp then make sure the radiator fan comes on?

My BMW 318i has had a new expansion tank fitted after overheating and splitting.After bleeding the cooling system it seems as though the bottom hose is not getting hot any suggestions would be welcome

NORMALY THE HOT FLOW ENTERS THE TOP HOSE AND COOLER WATER LEAVE THE BOTTOM HOSE BACK TO THE BLOCK, SO IF THE TOP HOSE GETS WARM THEN THE RAD IS BLOCKED , IF NIETHER GETS WARM/HOT THEN THERMOSTAT NOT WORKING, OR YOU HAVE BLOCKAGE ELSE WHERE, SO REMOVE BOTH HOSES FLUSH RAD WITH HOSE PIPE, (WHEN ENGINE IS COLD) SEE IF WATER FLOWS OUT AT SAME SPEED AS U R FILLING IT, IF NOT ITS BLOCKED, 2ND REMOVE THERMOSTAT AND FLUSH ENGINE OUT, U CAN BUY RAD FLUSH/CLEANER AND TRY THAT,

Radiator problems

it may be a little off, but the lower water hose seldom gets very hot,, as its this hose that suplyes the engine with ""cold water"" the hot water comes out the top hose,, drains down the rad and cools on the way down then enters the engine through the bottom hose """if your engine stayes running in the normal place on the gage,,,and not over heating""" why are you spending money for nothing???""
you wont get the bottom hose to run hot unless the engine is cooking

1991 honda accord is overheating. Installed new radiator because of leak and the car started overheating because of cracked heater hose. Installed new hose and still overheating. Bottom radiator hose is...

When the car is completely cool,check the electric fan(s) for smooth rotation.

Clean/check/change the thermo sensor,contact and wire.

===

Excavate air pocket in coolant system / check for head gasket leak

This test will kill two birds with one stone.

===

MAKE SURE THE COOLANT SYSTEM and ENGINE IS COLD!

RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

===

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

===

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket,black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

What could it be

Hi, I think you have an airlock in the pump,You need to drain the water totaly when stone cold.Drain radiator and disconect hoses from waterpump and top hose from themostat. Reconect pump hose and add water slowly into radiator through top hose untill rad is full then squeeze bottom hose vigourously,You ll feel the water tension in the hose, Connect all hoses and top up water level. This must be done cold as hot and cold water will cause an airlock. Hope this helps you out.All the best.Phil
