Hi, the first thing you should go and do is go to a filling station or car spares shop and go and buy a fuel line cleaner, these come as a fuel additive that you pour into the fuel tank.

A good one to buy is called Red X just make sure you buy correct type ie petrol or diesel and then pour this into your tank you then need to give the car a good run for between 30 min and an hour this will then ensure the product has gone around the whole fuel line system and this then cleans all the fuel lines out and injectors, after doing this you should find your car will run a lot better and you will have better fuel consumption.

If after doing that you still have problems then you need to start looking at things like changing the spark plugs as this can cause the problem you are having.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok

if the pump is ok and you have used the fuel line cleaner then you need to start looking at things like the spark plug leads if one of the leads is arcing out then this could cause the loss of power your having.
It could also be down to a bad injector but to find the fault their you would need to take it to have a diagnostic check.

It may just be a case of your car needing a good service.
Check the air filter isnt clogged up you could take the air filter out and try the car without the air filter in just make sure you put one back in after trying it.

Has the car been standing for a while ie a couple of months if thats the case then the fuel may have gone flat and could need draining and new fuel putting in.

It could even be bad sensor but this would have to go for a diagnostic check as you could never tell if a sensor was faulty just by looking at it.

Let me know how you get on ok

Fuel filter bad, won't start?

Hi Zac first thing i would check is fuel pressure. remove fuel hose to fuel rail hold hose into container get some one to crank motor only for a few seconds and turn ignition off..if no fuel ! suspect; fuel pump . also listen for fuel pump to hum when turning ignition on it should make some noise! hope this gives you something to check. as a mechanic i have come across this as a problem before.

My 91 volvo 940 wont start

The top tips for making your car more fuel efficient are Set your cruise control to 55 mph, change your air filter, check for proper tire pressure, and don't allow your car to idle for long periods of time.

My car not getting fuel 94 volvo 940 i have replaced fuel & fuel relay i need help

Does the pump run? If not does the pump get power for 1 second when the key is turned to run position? If it does have power then the answer is very obvious, the pump is defective inside the fuel tank or on the rail which ever you have.

1995 volvo 940 not starting

Sounds like a fuel pump issue. Any more details? Does it turn over? If you elevate the back, does it start sometimes?
It might be the fuel pump. When was the last time you had it replaced? They last between 70-120k miles (my experience), so depending on the last time it was replaced, it might be time for a new one. They are relatively cheap ($100-$130) if you do it yourself, but it may cost you anywhere from $300-$1000 to have it done.
There is an access panel under the trunk liner that gives you access to the pump and floater, so if anyone tries to tell you that you need to replace the whole tank for $1200 (this actually happened to me once), just say "Thanks" and go somewhere else.
Check for other options on the pump itself, when I asked Pep Boys, they gave me a $300 one, and I said I'd get back to them. Later I found that this Bosch that was only $130 fit was exactly what I needed.
