Simple fix, inspect the temperature sensor wire leads or replace sensor. It's located on the intake manifold by the thermostat housing. Good luck and keep me posted.

My cars heat gauge keeps going up to the hot section, but I don't think the car is actually overheating, I can't smell anything or hear the radiator boiling.

check the real value of the temperature sensor with a scan tool. Compare it withe the value in the gauge. It can be a defective temperature sensor or a damaged gauge...or else the car is really overheating

I have a 2002 Oldsmobile alero and it will go up to 40 mph and then the car has a hard time going over that. When I hit the accelerator I can hear a whistling sound as well.

HELLO, Check and see if the catalytic converter is stopped up. You can do that by removing the oxygen sensor in front of the converter (be careful you don't catch car on fire) or you can have a back pressure gage installed in the exhaust system that will tell you if the exhaust system is stopped up.

2001 Alero- heat gage does not show heat tempature. Blows warm air.Engine felt cold after a 50 mile trip. Out side tempature 20 degrees fernaheight.

with winter being here you might want to consider having a new thermostat put in to increase the heat in side, but make sure your radiator is full when engine is cold

Car was overheating now the temp gage does not move off C

Try flushuing the system and replacing the thermostat first, then if the problem persists have a shop do a test for a leaky head gasket, but do the easy cheap stuff 1st, only makes sense to me, how about you?
