1992 Buick Lesabre with 43,000 miles occasionally the transmission will shutter when I accelerate and it tries to downshift from overdrive to 3rd gear,

I took a look at the ICM and there seems to be a tan sticky substance leaking out from under it.

I just had the trans fluid flushed. Will adding the lube guard over fill it and cause damage or leakage?

  • Anonymous Feb 23, 2010

I found a product on Lubegard website called
Dr. Tranny Instant Shudder Fixx? is this the one you recommend?

  • Anonymous Feb 26, 2010

I tried the Dr. Tranny with no luck, it helped a little but it will still chug when under load in high gear. Thanks for your help though it was worth a try.

Sounds like the valves in the valve body are sticking, and maybe a lock up converter.Try this brand ,lube guard, for transmissions,it can be found at napa auto parts,it is the beat, and will most likely fix the problem,it is for transmission shutter.

The icm most likely will not cause this problem, this is common for these model cars if the valves are sticking in the valve body of the transmission, but if the icm is leaking,it does need to be replaced, for it will go out.

The LUBE GUARD will not be enough to even tell it on the dip stick,so go for it to see if it helps, most clutch chatter, and shutters this additive corrects .

No,but if it says LUBE GUARD,,and it is a synthetic, then it is the same thing, but napa sells it,and you can get it quicker ,just walk in and purchase it,but it does not matter, either will do,it is the synthetic properties that will fix it.There you go!

Be sure to get your ICM and coils tested first. It feels just like a transmission problem when one starts failing.

There should not be anything leaking from the ICM. If you have the Magnavox coil pack (a brick with three rectangular parts) instead of the Delco (three individual round coils) this is a symptom of failure.

Personally, I would get used Delco ICM and coils for your model vehicle.

My 2001 grand marquis hestitates and shutters slighty when downshifting from 4th to 3rd gear, shutting off overdrive eliminates problem

The first thing to do here is to have the transmission fluid changed, the shudder is torque converter clutch chatter, just like a burned clutch in a manual transmission car. The new fluid renews the anti friction additives and in most cases eleiminates the problem, have the transmission flushed so all fluid is replaced.

Do you mean upshifting starts way early? Going from 2nd to 3rd in other words?
Ireally don't know your transmission, but the alternator problem might've possibly spiked and hurt your shifting solenoids in the ******. don-ohio (:^)

Why transmission mount broke at 43,000 and 58,000 miles on Buick LaSabre 2004 No Syptoms noticed just found by dealer. One driver, both highway and town miles equal

It all depends upon where you are driving your car. My motor mount went at around 50K miles, but I drive into and around NYC often, and that will be enough to take out the whole underside of any car, given the pot holes and the like.

Transmission shifts down abruptly when accelerating.

It most likely is a transmission issue, a internal issue inside the transmission.

1992 buick LeSabre transmission troubleshooting!

92 Buick lesabre 97000 miles, on slow acceleration, @ 40mph going into 4th gear there is a mild chutter, same @ 50mph going into OD mild chutter and when down shifting from OD to 4th. All is when slow acceleration. When I say slow acceleration, I mean I drive like a older senior citizen when everyone behind me is annoyed I don't just donor and go. When I do romp to accelerate quicker, there is no chutter at all. Fluid is good and at perfect level. Any ideas? Great car just wondering the scoop is

well the low cost way to go first would be to try and change the trans fluids. If the problems still remains the it may be an internal problem
